Big Creative Training is a well-established and expanding creative industry training provider with a long track record of delivering positive outcomes for learners. Our mission is to improve the lives of young people through high quality training and creative industry experiences. We have more than 300 young people per year going through our vocational training programmes including apprenticeships and they all take qualifications in maths and English. We have great industry links and work with over 100 creative sector employers and SMEs. We are looking for an outstanding performing arts tutor to join our team based in Walthamstow, East London. The successful candidate will have maths and English at GCSE grade “C” or above, and will be educated to degree level in a relevant area with evidence of outstanding practice in a similar setting.

Key tasks

· The ability to work in a way that promotes the wellbeing of children and young people

· Outstanding approach to curriculum delivery using project based methods of learning 

· Plan and deliver exciting performing arts lessons that support learner retention, achievement and progression

· Model and encourage the highest standards from team and learners

· Ensure a high standard industry experience for learners with guest speakers and visits

· Track progress of learners and initiate support plans

· Complete learner one to one tutorials and individual learning plans

· Attend weekly team meetings with colleagues using KPI data to track learner progress

· Work with parents and carers to support students and attend interview and parent’s evenings

· Ensure feedback and marking is timely and supports learner progression

· Experience of internal verification of both assignments and assessment decisions

· Experience of working in the creative industries using an entrepreneurial approach

· Experience of working profresionally in performing arts

· Extremely organised and able to manage own work load effectively and flexibly

· Highly motivated and driven to succeed in a competitive and rewarding environment

· Outstanding teaching and communication skills and experience of good / outstanding Ofsted 

· Positive, solution focused and proactive when managing and responding to data 

· Assertive and self-confident in management of the learning environment

· Kind, empathic and supportive but challenging when needed

· Committed and willing to “go the extra mile” to meet targets

· Ambitious – will not settle for less than outstanding standards of work and behaviour

Salary and days of work

· This is a full time position 9am to 5pm with 22 hours teaching per week

· (Note we are willing to consider applications from outstanding candidates who wish to work part time)

· Full time salary is £30000 for a fully qualified teacher and £27000 for unqualified

· 32 days holidays plus bank holidays (40 days in total to be taken in college holiday periods)

· Start date 13th August 2018

Big Creative Academy

Big Creative Academy (BCA) is a post-16 free school specialising in the creative industries. We believe that teaching skills employers want and empowering young people to think reflectively enables positive outcomes for students and our wider community. Big Creative Academy is committed to wellbeing and excellent teaching. We have recently had an Ofsted inspection and were judged Grade 2 ‘Good’, with inspectors recognising that the Academy makes a significant difference to the outcomes for young people. We have high expectations of our staff and students and want to be recognised as one of the leading providers of vocational programmes in the creative arts. We are already a DfE best practice school for LGBT+.   

Big Creative Academy opened in September 2014 and have 300 students, aged 16-19, primarily studying Level 3 vocational qualifications. Our students are diverse and challenging and ultimately extremely rewarding to work with. Our study programmes specialise in music, fashion, media, gaming, events, performing arts as well as GCSE Maths and English.   The Academy is lively! We are well connected with industry and all of our teaching staff have industry experience. We also have industry ambassadors from companies such as MTV, ITN, Barcroft Media and Island Records and experts are kind enough to provide masterclasses for students. Our focus on skills, wellbeing and networks gives our students the edge in a competitive marketplace.     

The Team  

Sacha Corcoran MBE is Principal of the Academy, an inspiring self-made woman involved in education for over 20 years. She has brought together a small outstanding team who are committed to the vision and ethos of the Academy. There are three senior managers, 17 teaching staff and ten in business support. Our team are high achievers and have interesting and diverse backgrounds. Many are have their own creative careers as musicians, actors, producers and fashion designers and all have a passion for creativity.
