- The new iQTS course from Tes allows learners to train as a teacher, getting qualified teacher status (QTS) in any country from across the globe.
- The course is backed by the UK Government’s Department for Education (DfE).
- This school-centred Initial Teacher Training programme is a way that the UK is exporting excellence in teacher training . Tes Institute is the only non-University provider approved by the DfE.
The iQTS course, to start in September 2023, will help learners from anywhere in the world to gain qualified teacher status (QTS) with the option to add an International Postgraduate Certificate in Education (iPGCE). On the course, trainees will develop knowledge and understanding of teaching in an international context, improve their practical teaching skills and gain in-school experience.
The course will give trainees the skills, experience and knowledge to become excellent teachers, with an internationally transferable qualification backed by the UK government.
As schools everywhere continue to feel the effects of a recruitment and retention crisis, this innovative new course offers a new route into teaching for the brightest and best from across the world, allowing them to train in their own country. This will increase the global pool of qualified, capable teachers and support teaching as a global profession.
Ian Hunter, Director of Tes Institute said:
“We are proud to be the first non-University provider of the brand new iQTS course.
“From our work training teachers around the world, we know there is a global demand for high quality teacher training. This course will use Tes’s international presence to help address that need and increase the global pool of qualified, capable teachers. This new route into teaching means schools worldwide can develop and nurture their own local talent. Children all over the world will benefit from these qualified, excellent educators in their classroom.”
Applicants to the iQTS course from Tes must hold a full degree from a UK higher education institution or equivalent qualification, as well as the appropriate qualities, attitudes and values expected of a teacher. The course is based in school, so trainees will need to be employed in a school at the start of their course. As a member of the school team, these teacher trainees will learn their skills from experienced professionals.
