Individual Learning Plans FAQs
An Individual Learning Plan (ILP) is a document that allows all stakeholders involved in the education of a child to document and collaborate on the student’s learning goals.
ILPs help educators develop supportive learning environments for all students, but especially those with special education needs by ensuring all stakeholders are working from the same learning plan.
An ILP should be reviewed at least every 6 months, but ideally once per school term in consultation with the other stakeholders.
Typically, an ILP will detail the child’s needs/impairment/disability, the responsibilities of all stakeholders involved in the education of the child, the child’s learning goals and objectives, and the strategies being implemented to help the child achieve them.
All children can benefit from an ILP, however they are most often used in the education of students with diverse needs.
An Individual Learning Plan (ILP) is sometimes called an Individual Education Plan (IEP). The terms are interchangeable, however ILP is most commonly used.
