About Brackenfield School

Founded in 1977, Brackenfield School is a non-selective Independent Nursery and Preparatory Day School for approximately 160 boys and girls between the ages of 2 and 11 years.  Formerly a family home, the school is situated on the edge of Harrogate within walking distance of the town centre, and is well placed to attract pupils from the residential neighbourhood of the town as well as from the outlying rural district.

The school is set in large gardens, overlooking open countryside.  The buildings include a well equipped hall, Art and Design Technology Room, an all-weather tennis court and play areas.  The school also has its own extensive games fields.

Brackenfield School is owned by Forfar Education.  Significant recent investment has been made into school facilities at Brackenfield, and this programme of development and improvement is ongoing.

Guidelines of the National Curriculum are followed and excellent results are achieved by the end of Year 6, with many pupils gaining scholarships to senior independent schools.  Academic success is an important feature of Brackenfield, together with a strong family atmosphere.  Music and French are taught throughout the school.  During the Junior years (Years 3 – 6), pupils are increasingly taught by specialist teachers.

The school has 16 teachers and 11 part-time classroom assistants and peripatetic teachers.  The majority of pupils join the Pre-Nursery department following their second birthday, and progress through the school, transferring to the senior school of their choice at 11 years of age.  The nursery, Little Brackens, operates for 50 weeks a year.
