About the role
Permanent, Full Time - Term Time, 37 hours per week, 39 weeks per year.
- To ensure high levels of student attendance, punctuality and behaviour;
- To work closely with students, teachers and parents and other support staff as well as outside agencies to ensure that students flourish within the MAP provision at Thomas Middlecott Academy and thereby achieve their potential;
- To work with individual students, using a range of strategies, to ensure that they achieves personal goals;
- To provide support to address the personal, social, and educational needs of students who are underachieving, misbehaving, or in need of behaviour intervention;
- To provide support for students at risk of permanent exclusion; and for students who have been permanently excluded;
- To manage Pastoral Support Plans and student case studies for identified students and provide data where required to senior staff;
- To undertake work/care/support programmes to enable access to learning for students and to assist the teacher in the behaviour management of students and the classroom;
- To strategically plan, deliver and manage intervention programmes & KS3/KS4 Lessons, to support students and families
- To assist with the development and implementation of appropriate behaviour management strategies;
- To promote the inclusion and acceptance of all students;
- To motivate students, to promote and reinforce self-esteem.

Who we are looking for:
- Level 2 (or equivalent) in Mathematics and English.
- Proven experience of working with children with challenging behaviour and learning difficulties – desirable.
- Qualification in related area [Classroom Support; Social Work; Police; Health Service; Counselling; Mentoring] – Desirable.
- A basic understanding of the education system and a willingness to learn.
- Good communication skills, both written and oral.
- An understanding of the structure and operation of an Academy environment and an appreciation of how this role will enhance support mechanisms for students.
- Committed to promoting the welfare of all children and creating a safe environment in which children can learn; considering, at all times, what is in the best interests of the child.
- Knowledge and experience of techniques related to raising self-esteem/modifying behaviour/target setting/monitoring progress/conflict resolution - with students/young adults and parents.

Based in the town of Kirton, in Boston, Lincolnshire, Thomas Middlecott Academy is a secondary mainstream school for girls and boys between the ages of 11 and 16. It was converted into an academy in March 2015. At present, there are approximately 479 students on the roll. The academy opened in 1624 as a Free Grammar School by Sir Thomas Middlecott. The school is a part of the David Ross Education Trust.

“The recently appointed headteacher has made an impressive start. Expectations for what students can achieve are beginning to rise and there have been improvements in behaviour and attendance. Staff, students and parents feel there have been many positive changes since April 2013. Partnerships with parents are strengthening. Students are cared for well. They feel safe in school and are confident that staff will deal with any problems that may arise. Most teachers show that they have secure subject knowledge and many have good relationships with their students. Where teaching is good, staff target questions at individual students to check the quality of their learning and to keep them fully involved in the lesson.”
