Job overview

As a catering assistant, your primary responsibility will be to support the provision of food services in the cafes, which operate over all 5 College sites. The cafes provide a hot and cold breakfast and lunch service to students and staff during term time, with a significant proportion of students receiving free meals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of café services across all sites as part of the wider catering team, including operating tills and working on the servery.
  • Assist in the preparation of food and beverage items for sale in the cafes.
  • Ensure that the café, servery and kitchen areas are in a clean and tidy condition at all times.
  • Provide a friendly, efficient and hygienic service to all customers.
  • Work as part of the catering team to produce a food offer that is healthy, diverse, reflective of the student cohort, consistent in quality and sustainable.
  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of food and beverages for internal hospitality purposes or special events.
  • Ensure compliance with all food service, health and safety and employment regulations.
  • Undertake off the job and on the job training as required to ensure skills remain up to date.

Generic duties: 

  • To contribute fully to the mission and values statement of the College Group ensuring its effective implementation in all aspects of College life.
  • To take proactive responsibility for Health & Safety to ensure that a safe working environment and safe working practices are maintained at all times.
  • To comply with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).
  • To support cross college activities as required, such as organizing events or assisting with enrolment.
  • To understand roles and responsibilities around safeguarding all learners and contribute to maintaining a safe learning environment.



Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Experience of working in a catering or hospitality setting.
  • High level of customer service skills.
  • Commitment to engaging in staff development.

Opened in 1992 after being formed from a number of colleges in the city we now have 5 locations situated in the heart of Liverpool. Currently the college serves more than a third of all 16-18 year olds in Liverpool, and educates almost 12,000 learners a year. In 2018 the college achieved a pass rate of 99.6% beating the national average of 97.6% for a-level results. Within this year as well we had a 100% pass rate in modern languages.

However, the college itself is not just facts and figures. The mission statement of provide high quality skills and education by delivering opportunities for growth to all people and business of the Liverpool City region, shows inclusivity and a community understanding. The ease in which to get here helps quite a lot to. Be it driving, buses, trains or even a ferry you are never short of options. 

Being that working/living in Liverpool does offer a wide range of experiences to have. Historical buildings like the Bombed out church, Royal court theatre house or even a hidden gem like the Bluecoat School lane which boasts being the oldest building in Liverpool. The Beatles museum is a popular place to explore the band and possible find bits out about them you might not have known. Or if just unwinding and relaxing there are multiple pubs/bars, restaurants, and comedy nights to enjoy.
