The Portsmouth Grammar School is a leading co-educational school located in the historic heart of Portsmouth. The Careers, Universities and Scholarship Department at PGS provides a comprehensive careers and universities programme that takes pupils from Careers Skills Day in Year 7 to UCAS applications, or alternative pathways, in Year 13.

The Careers Co-ordinator works closely with the Head of Careers, Universities and Scholarship Department to support pupils in a wide range of careers and university activities, aligned with the Gatsby Benchmarks of good career guidance.

The successful candidate will have proven administrative experience, be highly organised and able to work well independently in a busy office. A proactive and flexible approach to work is important, as is the willingness to work as part of a team.

We welcome applications from candidates who currently hold professional qualifications, for example QCF Level 4 or Level 6 in Careers Information and Advice and from candidates willing to undertake CPD relevant to the role. 

Excellent spoken and written communication skills are essential when liaising with pupils, colleagues, parents, visitors and outside agencies. Much of the work is confidential and requires the ability to work accurately and with attention to detail.

The hours of work will be 37.5 per week, Monday – Friday. The standard work pattern is 8.30am to 4.30pm, with an unpaid 30 minutes for lunch. There will be some flexibility required for work outside of normal hours, for example during busy times or to organise and attend evening events.

This is a non-teaching term time role, to include attendance at all Professional Development (INSET) days in the school calendar.

ISI Report 2022

During an ISI Inspection in late 2022 both the achievement of the pupils, including their academic development and the personal development of the pupils were found to be excellent - the highest possible classification. The Inspection also looked at the School’s compliance with the regulatory standards and requirements. PGS met all the standards required.
