Job overview

We have a vacancy for a part-time CCF School Staff Instructor (SSI) who will play a key role in running our large and vibrant Combined Cadet Force.

St. Columba’s CCF was set up over twenty years ago and contains both Army and RAF sections. We recruit from Form 2 ( Year 8) and Form 3 (Year 9), but we will consider students from any year group. The CCF has always been well attended with 80 in the Army section and 25 in the RAF, and we are constantly striving to develop this.

In 2024 one of our Cadets was selected as the Lord Lieutenants’ Cadet. We have consistently performed well in competitions, winning Combat Cadet in 2024 and being highly placed in other years.

The CCF is well supported by CFAVs from both inside and outside the College. At present we have 7 Army Officers, with one more coming on board soon, and 3 RAF Officers.

Numerous activities are planned during the year including: Army Fieldcraft in March, RAF Flying and Gliding, Army Camp and RAF Camp, AT Day and Range Day, a Regimental Dinner plus bids for Master Cadet and Champion Cadet. Six Cadets are doing SCIC next year. So it is an exciting time for the right person to really stamp their mark.

Candidates must have a willingness to play a full part in the extra-curricular life of the College and be in sympathy with its Catholic ethos. In return we offer an attractive salary and benefits package including: generous fee remission; free lunches and refreshments; contributory pension scheme; cycle to work scheme; free annual flu vaccination; eye care vouchers; and free car parking on site.

St Columba’s College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All post holders will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the role, including reference checks with past employers, online background checks, and the Disclosure & Barring Service.

If you wish to discuss the vacancy further, please contact Jackie Metcalfe, HR Manager at metcalfe.j@stcolumbascollege.org or on 01727 892095. To apply for this position, visit https://stcolumbascollege.org/

Closing date: 10 am on Monday, 11th November 2024. Interviews will be conducted shortly afterwards. Early applications are encouraged as the College reserves the right to call suitable candidates to interview and make an appointment prior to the closing date.
