Job Purpose

The post holder will be a key member of the Facilities team, with responsibility for ensuring that necessary compliance checks are completed. They will also assist with minibus driving, general maintenance and janitorial duties.

Main Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Compliance:

  • Ensure required compliance checks and tests are carried out, verified and recorded in line with school policies and procedures. These will cover but not be limited to fire safety, legionella control, transport and vehicle safety and asbestos.
  • Ensure fire practices are carried out regularly and in line with best practice.
  • Liaise with the Facilities Coordinator and Head of Estates and Operations to ensure that appropriate policies and procedures are in place to ensure compliance with statutory regulations, health and safety requirements and best practice.
  • Delegate tasks to other members of the team or external contractors as re quired.

Minibus Driving and Transport Management:

  • Driving minibus for Haymarket shuttle run.
  • Ad-hoc driving of minibus as needed.
  • Ensure vehicle checks are carried out and vehicles are appropriately maintained.

Maintenance:

  • Carrying out general maintenance tasks, including planned and reactive work.

Other Facilities Tasks:

As a member of the Facilities team, the role holder will be expected to assist with the following tasks:

  • Room set-up and take down.
  • Furniture removal and portering.
  • Traffic management and supervision of road crossings.
  • Escort and oversight of external contractors.
  • Unlocking/lock-up of buildings.
  • Occasional assistance with grounds tasks, including gritting and snow-clearing.
  • Ad-hoc out of hours security support.

Personal and Professional Development:

  • Attend relevant courses and actively seek to broaden knowledge and skills relevant to responsibilities.

The post holder will be expected to carry out such other duties as reasonably correspond to the general character of the post and are commensurate with its level of responsibility.

St George’s School for Girls is an independent, all-through school in Edinburgh. It caters for approximately 800 girls aged between two and eighteen.

Founded in 1888 by pioneers of women’s education, St George’s is the largest all-girls school in Scotland and the only all-through girls’ school in Edinburgh. The school was named the top Scottish Independent School for Advanced Higher results by the Best-Schools website in 2014 and 2013.

Vision and values

The main vision of St George’s School for Girls is to produce women of independent mind who are equipped with the academic and life skills to succeed.
