Penistone Grammar School has an exciting opportunity for a permanent Curriculum Area Leader for Science. We are looking for someone with the enthusiasm, drive and determination to lead this inspirational department and continue its well-established tradition of success.

Contract:         Full time, Permanent

Salary Range: MPS/UPS with TLR1A (£14290 per annum)

Start Date:       September 2025

About the role:

You will be a first-class practitioner who will thrive upon the commitment our students have to their learning, a leader who has the knowledge, expertise and determination to make a positively make a difference in the life of each and every student who learns science; a leader who shares our vision and can inspire our young people to achieve more than they believe is possible.

The science department continually achieves excellent GCSE and A level results well within the top 20% nationally. Furthermore, 40% of our students at the end of Y9 go on to study separate science, and currently 41% of subjects studied by our A level students are biology, chemistry or physics.

The successful candidate will have previous experience of leading a team and a proven track record at KS4/5 or will be a Second in Department excited at the opportunity of further developing their career.

Penistone Grammar School really is a special place to work. There’s no doubt that our amazing student body of 1900 students, including 300 Post 16 students, and our state-of-the-art building set in beautiful surroundings, make coming to work worthwhile. However, what really makes Penistone the school it is, is our staff.
