Job overview

This is an exciting time to join Workington Academy as we are part of a forward thinking and innovative Multi Academy Trust who are committed to cooperative and collaborative approaches.

We are looking for an outstanding candidate to join our growing team. The candidate should be an excellent classroom practitioner, reflective in their teaching practice and focused on getting the best from every student across all key stages of the secondary curriculum.

The role of curriculum leader is crucial in developing the ethos of achievement within the curriculum area, in harmony with the aims and ethos of the whole school. Curriculum Leaders must ensure that targets for improvement in the Curriculum Area are set and met, through positive approaches to curriculum development, the planning and preparation of schemes of work, the monitoring of learning and teaching across the curriculum area and the support and development of staff.

Curriculum leaders form a vital part of the middle leadership team. They need to have a good knowledge of educational issues and are expected to keep up to date with, lead on and work in conjunction with the team on improving pedagogy and practice where it is relevant to the curriculum area.

If you have the qualities required, along with the passion and aspirations to contribute to the success of the Academy and the MAT, then we would welcome an application from you.

Should you have any questions regarding the role please don't hesitate to contact Ali Merricks at amerricks@workingtonacademy.org

Headteacher's Welcome:

As the Headteacher of Workington Academy, I am immensely proud of the high standard of education we provide to all of our students. We are a community school, driven to provide the absolute best experiences and opportunities to every young person at the Academy. Our ethos of ‘Be The Best You Can Be’ is at the heart of everything we do, whether in the classroom or on the sports field. Underpinning our ethos are the core values of Respect, Responsibility, and Resilience. Through these values, we are able to round and develop every child in our school and prepare them for a full and rewarding life. As a proud member of Cumbria Education Trust (CET), we work proactively with all our trust schools, to develop an excellent curriculum that supports students in achieving the very best outcomes. Alongside this we also work together to provide outstanding extra-curricular opportunities in the areas of sport, design, leadership and expressive arts.

We strive to continuously improve, never resting on our laurels, always looking for the next step to maximise student outcomes or improve student engagement. We are passionate about going the extra mile for all our students, supporting them to be the best versions of themselves.
