Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to apply for a key leadership role in a thriving department at Elthorne Park High School. We are a successful and significantly oversubscribed 11-18, mixed, community high school of 1580 students located in West London. We are a high-performing school - consistently in the top 10% of schools for student progress and attainment - with a reputation for being welcoming, inclusive and ambitious.  Our teaching and support staff are exceptional and our students are not only thoughtful and resilient, but hardworking and eager to learn too.

In March 2019, Ofsted judged us as outstanding and we have achieved four SSAT Leading Edge Awards for variety of teaching approaches, engagement with evidence and research, professional learning and educational outcomes. The science department has been selected to lead training for teachers new to teaching A level chemistry from across the south-east of England and has been designated as a centre of excellence for practical science by the ASE.

Science is a very successful subject at Elthorne Park with students on average achieving half a grade higher than expected at KS4. Our large, supportive team of subject specialists have a strong record of both exam success and of developing students and staff. Uptake of science at Post-16 is very impressive and many students go on to study science degrees at top universities.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate initiative and a determination to exact high standards in all areas of responsibility. This should be coupled with compassion, empathy and the energy to inspire colleagues and students with their passion for science.

We want ambitious teachers like you to stay with us for the long-term and we will do everything we can to help you be the very best leader you can be. You will have access to a comprehensive wellbeing package, including professional development tailored around your needs and aspirations, a longer October half term break and two dedicated marking days during the year.

Other benefits include: generous non-contact time; assistance for those taking Masters, further degrees and NPQ qualifications; an excellent record of staff achieving promotion; a dedicated and supportive pastoral team; an impressive library; access to the fitness gym; a wellbeing package which includes access to online GP appointments and physiotherapy.

This is an outstanding school.

We have fantastic students, a tremendously supportive community of parents, an expert, highly committed staff and we are situated in leafy Ealing, the queen of the suburbs! As an ambitious and highly achieving school, we have received numerous attainment and progress awards during our unbroken run of ever-increasing academic success over the past decade. These three aspects of our work are absolutely vital and are part of our investment in teachers and their professional development.

As a proud community school, we follow a broad curriculum with all KS3 students taking art, DT, MFL, drama and music alongside the academic core. At KS4 and 5 we offer the full range of option subjects including vocational BTECs. We operate sensible and highly effective teaching and learning, behaviour and staff development policies.
