Job overview

We are seeking to appoint an inspirational Curriculum Leader with the ability and ambition to support the raising of standards, moving the academy towards our vision to become outstanding. You will be committed to high standards of learning and student progress and help students to achieve their potential.

Our extremely popular school is situated in leafy Compton Park, adjacent to the Wolves Academy training grounds, with its wonderful open fields and sports facilities.

Excellent behaviour and student progress for all are underpinned by our CARE values (Calm - Aspirational - Respectful - Engaged), upheld by all who work or study at St Edmund’s.

Our community is wonderfully diverse, engaging and energetic. “A good school with an excellent sixth form” (Ofsted Nov 2019), we are at the forefront of both in-class and remote e-learning with a mission to ensure our students are all productive, active citizens who will go on to do good in the world and make a difference. Our mission of “Love - Service - Forgiveness” underpins both formal teaching and the personal and spiritual development of our students.

The successful candidate will have leadership experience across MFL (GCSE & A level). Accreditation of AST/NPQML status or similar would be an advantage, together with strong organisational and highly effective planning skills. It is desirable for the successful candidate to have examiner experience and knowledge and understanding of the Ofsted inspection process.

You will:

  • Be an excellent teacher of your subject at KS3, 4 & 5 (with Spanish as a preference).
  • Have excellent communication and behaviour management skills.
  • Be actively supportive of the Catholic values and beliefs of St Edmund’s and to making a positive contribution to the wider life of the school.

A comprehensive programme of induction and departmental support will be provided. The wellbeing and professional development of all staff at St Edmund’s is our priority.

We can offer:

  • Supportive directors and Local Academy Committee members.
  • Opportunities for collaborative work in partnership with other Senior Leaders across the SFSC Catholic MAC, the wider community and with our strategic partners and agencies.
  • Students/pupils who are enthusiastic, confident, happy and well-behaved.
  • Dedicated and committed staff, eager to build on our high standards.
  • A strong faith community.

You are welcome to contact Mrs Hill, Assistant Principal: Director of Teaching & Learning at the Academy on 01902 558888.

Interview date: w/c 20th March 2023

Values and Vision

As a committed Catholic school, St Edmund’s Catholic Academy places a huge amount of importance on faith and the teaching of the Catholic Church. The school motto is “To Love and Serve the Lord”, and the school expresses this through consistent and numerous acts of charity and religious retreats. In addition to this, the school’s students are given regular opportunities to attend mass at local churches in Wolverhampton. The school still maintains its focus on academic exploits, however, with a strong and engaging curriculum available to students, and a sixth form working with other local schools to offer a range of academic and vocational subjects.

Ofsted

“Teaching supports students’ good spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. For example, in religious education lessons, students reflected thoughtfully on problems of evil and suffering and on the moral messages in Psalms. In geography, they developed a good understanding of people’s different reactions to recent natural disasters.”
