Do you have a desire to help vulnerable students make significant progress despite challenging circumstances, working for a for a DfE accredited national online provision, which places children’s wellbeing and success at the heart of their work?

Our Deputy Heads of Subject support the Head of Subject and leaders of learning (Teachers) within their subject specialist departments. They play a central role in ensuring all students receive a high quality and engaging education, supporting the Head of Department to uphold high standards of teaching and learning, develop colleagues and the wider subject team.

Working Hours

  • 37.5 hours per week over 5 days 
  • As a Head of Subject, you will have a reduced teaching timetable to allow time for your head of subject responsibilities 
  • Live Teaching is from Monday to Friday between 8:30am to 4.40pm


The Deputy Head of Subject role represents an exciting opportunity to make a difference to the lives of vulnerable students. As the company expands to meet the needs of increasing student enrolments, you will be responsible for supporting your Head of Subject and the wider team to offer a curriculum to enhance the ongoing educational journey of our students, delivering excellence within the classroom and enabling students to fulfil their potential whilst supporting to shape the culture of the department. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


The successful candidate will:

  • Work in co-operation with the Head of Subject to provide leadership that further improves the school.
  • Be responsible for ensuring the continued delivery of high quality teaching and learning.
  • Contribute to a clear vision to ensure the effective implementation of the school’s identity and values.
  • On a day-to-day basis, work with the Head of Subject to manage and lead direct reports and assume additional responsibilities as required to meet the needs of the business. 
  • Raise standards of student attainment and achievement within the whole subject area and monitor and support student progress. 
  • Be accountable, with the Head of Subject, for student progress and development within the subject area. 
  • Develop and enhance the teaching practice of others. 
  • Ensure the provision of an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant, and differentiated curriculum for students studying in the subject, in accordance with the aims of the school and its curricular policies. 
  • Promote a growth mindset for the potential achievement of all students.
  • Act as a role model of good practice for other teachers, modelling effective strategies and facilitating team collaboration across and between subject areas.


THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:


  • Ideally the candidate will be qualified up to degree level in a related subject area and have a recognised teaching qualification, a PGCE with Qualified Teacher Status. 
  • Knowledge of the correct safeguarding procedures.
  • Excellent subject knowledge and the knowledge of best ways to engage students in your subject of expertise.
  • Considerable interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to form good relationships both internally and externally.
  • Analytical and data orientated skills that support change and improvement.

Our successful candidates will join a talented team providing excellent online educational experiences for our students whose ages range between 8 and 18. The successful candidates will demonstrate expertise and experience of delivering their subject specialism/s and come from either a state school and/or independent school background. Passionate about ensuring the students are at the centre of learning, the successful candidate will be used to deadlines, have experience of creating effective learning resources and having a key focus on the academic monitoring and progress of the students.

About our Roles

Here at King's InterHigh and Academy21, our Leaders of Learning (Remote Teacher) contracts do differ from mainstream schools due to the nature of our business and ways of operating. As a Leader of Learning (Remote Teacher) you will be contracted to 42 weeks of the year, up to 38 of these weeks are contact weeks with the students, with the remaining weeks being available for additional activity such as course writing.

You will work 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. During the school day there are allocated breaks in the morning, lunch time and in the afternoon, with breaks in between each lesson also.

Our lessons are 40 minutes long which ensures the time spent in the classroom is value added and effective. A full time Leader of Learning could be given a timetable with up to 33 lessons, equating to 22 hours of contact time.

As a business and a school, we do not follow the Teachers Mainstream Payscale, we operate in line with our own salary bandings. Further information specifically for each role will be available via the job adverts.
