Oliver House are recruiting for a Deputy Head Teacher. We are looking for an outstanding relationship builder, with a passion for providing children and young people with special needs with the best possible education.


You will have knowledge of formulating the aims and objectives of the school, whilst establishing policies for achieving these aims and objectives. You will be energetic and have a strong sense of moral purpose, and the ability to inspire the team to achieve the highest standards to ensure best outcomes for pupils.


Oliver House School is an independent specialist school for boys and girls aged 6 to 19 who have mild, moderate and severe autism and associated complex learning needs, behaviours that may challenge and/or associated anxiety.


Experience working within an SEN leadership role with Early Years experience is essential for this role.


The successful candidate will have experience in supporting our young people who may have autism, ADHD and associated complex needs and supporting young people within SEN schools, along with the following characteristics:


  • Resilience – We support some of the most vulnerable children in society who have varying degrees of autism, ADHD and associated difficulties so there will be times where your resilience is challenged. 
  • Communication – Communicating with our young people is vital to understand their needs. Positive working relationships, good teamwork and communication plays a key part in ensuring important information is relayed to other staff.
  • Organisation – Organisation is key to ensure the safe management of both employees and resources as well as leading and directing staff through inspection processes.
  • Caring – Our young people require the best care we can offer. If you are a naturally caring and compassionate person, this is the role for you.
  • Attentive – No two tasks will be the same so being attentive to understand the needs of the young people we support is vital

Oliver House School is a specialist day and residential school for boys and girls aged 6 to 19 who have mild, moderate and severe autistic spectrum conditions and associated learning difficulties. Children may also have challenging behaviour as a result of their difficulties and their lack of social understanding.

Oliver House School delivers the highest level of education and care according to individual need in a safe, positive and structured environment in which every pupil is encouraged to achieve the best possible academic, social and vocational outcomes.

Many of the pupils at Oliver House School may have been out of education for considerable periods of time which is why we make it our aim to encourage our pupils to be happy to attend school on a daily basis, with the help and support of our dedicated team of staff.

Placements can either be on a day, residential or respite basis for up to 52 weeks of the year depending on individual need. All of the young people referred to the school will have a Statement of Special Educational Need. Oliver House School can provide places for up to 40 pupils.
