Job overview
We are seeking to appoint an exceptional and inspirational Director of Music who will continue to build on the strong tradition and reputation of Music at Mayfield.
The Music Department at Mayfield has a long tradition of choral and instrumental music of the highest calibre, both within the school and through its links with the wider community. Cornelia Connelly, our foundress, was committed to the creative and performing arts: she saw music and drama as intrinsic to a balanced and Catholic education; providing a valuable and complementary stimulating environment. It is committed to achieving the highest standards in academic and practical music, and to ensuring that the girls take with them, when they leave, not only a knowledge, but a love of music.
As well as being a personable, dynamic and accomplished musician, the successful candidate will have a passion for teaching music across the full age and ability range of the School. Ideally, they will have experience of managing a successful department, but this is not essential for the right candidate.
Mayfield is a leading Catholic Independent boarding and day School for girls aged 11-18 situated in the beautiful East Sussex countryside, less than 50 miles from London and 40 minutes from Gatwick. We offer excellent working conditions in an outstanding environment, as well as a competitive salary package. All staff are expected to contribute to the extra-curricular life of the School.

About Mayfield School
At Mayfield School we aim to educate the student’s mind, soul, heart and body in partnership with parents, so that each individual may develop: inner confidence, an unshakeable framework of spiritual values, strong moral principles, a deep capacity for compassion, and the knowledge, intellectual curiosity and training to continue learning throughout life; the confidence to become what they want to be, but make that self just what our Lord wants it to be.
We believe that our boarding experience is one of our strongest assets – it stimulates lifelong friendships and family loyalty to the school. It strengthens our work hard, play hard ethos. Our community is a temporary home for about half of our students and it prepares girls for independent life at university and beyond.
Our extra curricular activities programme is designed to compliment and support the girls’ curriculum studies and enhance the boarding experience. By combining their academic studies with creative and physical activities outside of the school day, girls learn to balance their activities with their studies and give equal commitment to both.
