We are seeking a well-qualified and exceptional leader to join us in the role of Director of Music on a full-time basis.  The successful candidate will be expected to teach across all ages. You should have excellent academic and musical qualifications as well as relevant teaching experience up to and including A level. Small teaching groups throughout the School are supported by the very latest technology and modern facilities including an extensive use of 1:1 digital learning.

The Music Department plays a significant role in the continuing success of the school. Our Director of Music must have the ability to inspire young people to participate in a range of musical activities and must be able to rehearse and direct instrumental and choral groups to a high standard. A willingness to fully embrace the co-curricular opportunities at the school (especially with whole school theatrical productions) is expected including the management and leadership of trips and visits. 

A team of 19 self-employed Visiting Music Teachers deliver weekly instrumental/vocal lessons in School, overseen by the Director of Music.

There is also onsite accommodation available to rent at a subsidised rate for single occupancy. King Edward VI School is a leading HMC Independent day school for children aged 11 – 18. King Edward’s is a school with a long and distinguished history and it has been at the heart of Southampton for over 460 years. The School has occupied 4 different sites, relocating to the purpose built site on Hill Lane in 1938. It became fully independent in 1979 and co-educational in 1994.
