Job overview
The governors of John Port School are seeking to appoint a Director of Teaching and Learning - Geography, from January 2018.
Although the most recent Ofsted report recognises the challenges facing the school, John Port is at an exciting point in its journey back towards being an Outstanding school. With a new Headteacher, newly forming Senior Leadership team and extensive support from the George Spencer Multi-Academy Trust, this school is set to make rapid and sustainable change over the coming months.
We would like to appoint either an experienced Head of Geography who has aspirations to leadership within a large Social Sciences Faculty or someone who is an experienced teacher looking to develop their career by transforming this department. Either way, the person we wish to appoint will be an excellent Geographer with the creativity and drive to motivate and challenge students to achieve their very best.
The successful candidate will:
- be able to teach Geography at KS3, GCSE and A level and have a strong track record of outcomes at all Key Stages;
- be a strategic and innovative thinker;
- be a team player able to motivate students and colleagues;
- have excellent interpersonal skills;
- be committed to improving teaching and learning and raising achievement for all learners.
The person appointed to the position of Director of Teaching and Learning will need to be flexible as the requirements of this role are likely to change as the needs of the faculty develop.
The successful candidate will play a key leadership role in a faculty and school that prides itself on excellent teacher/student relationships and high expectations.
