Job Title:                     EAL Tutor

Reporting to:             Head of English Language Support and Deputy Head. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Provision of one-to-one or small group tutoring for students whose first language is not English, assisting in the development of language skills and helping them to work towards English Language iGCSEs/IELTS as appropriate to the student’s proposed year of entry at Lancing. 
  • Setting, marking, recording and reporting of formative assessments and practice to ensure that the student, upon admission to Lancing College, has sufficiently functional English to be able to access the school’s mainstream lessons. 
  • Liaising with the Head of English Language Support re: progress of students and their likelihood of success in the examination towards which they are working, including providing information likely to contribute to decisions on First or Second Language English iGCSE entry. 
  • Providing information to Head of ELS and/or other staff re: curricular support of students and differentiation of instruction in subjects other than English Language/Literature. 

 

Person Specification  

  • An excellent classroom practitioner with a genuine passion for teaching, able to lead by example and inspire pupils. 
  • A strong degree in a relevant discipline with a teaching qualifications and experience desirable. 
  • CELTA/DELTA or equivalent TESOL/TEFL qualification 
  • Experience of teaching EFL/EAL 
  • Experience of preparing students for Cambridge iGCSE First and Second Language English examinations 
  • Experience of preparing students for IELTS examinations 
  • A good team player with the ability to lead and work with a small team but also to work independently. 
  • Outgoing and positive in personality with the vocation, enthusiasm and gravitas to be an outstanding ambassador for the College.  
  • Kindly, approachable and measured in manner with the ability to form strong working relationships with pupils, colleagues and parents. 
  • Organisation, discretion, flexibility and attention to detail. 
  • Excellent skills in oral and written communication.  
  • Confident proficiency with using Microsoft Office, especially Outlook, Word and Excel.
