Job overview
We are looking for an experienced Early Years Teaching Assistant to support pupils and teachers in a variety of settings and ways within our Nursery Department at Heywood Prep School and Nursery.
The primary role is to work with teachers to raise the learning and attainment of our pupils, while also promoting their independence, self-esteem and social inclusion. The successful candidate will be providing assistance to pupils so that they can access our broad and balanced curriculum, participate in learning and experience a sense of achievement.
Contract: Fixed term contract until 25th April 2025
Hours: 32.5 hour per week. 9am - 4pm, 5 days a week with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break
Salary: £12.00 per hour/£20,280 per annum
Start Date: ASAP after appointment
A level 2 or 3 in Early Years Education qualification is required for the role.

Job Description:
- Support the aims and ethos of the school.
- Using play to help children learn and develop, promoting independence, challenge and self-reliance.
- Ensuring children are safe and nurtured.
- Setting up and running nursery sessions, including breaktime and lunch duties.
- Plan, set up and supervise activities, making observations and assessments for children’s online learning journals both inside and outdoors.
- Work closely with staff to feedback on children’s development and achievements, being a proactive and flexible member of the team.
- Support class teachers in administrative duties as required.
- To supervise pupils on outings and visits as required.
- Ensure all children are fed and hydrated.
- To promote and support the safeguarding of children and young people in the workplace.
- To work with an established discipline policy to anticipate and manage behaviour constructively, promoting self-control and independence.
- Work alongside parents/carers of special needs children to provide details of progress.
- Clean and change children when necessary.
- Participate in team meetings and INSET training as requested.
- To treat all information relating to a pupil as strictly confidential, and to be aware of and comply with school policy and practice.
- To undertake holiday club activities with early years children.
- To perform other duties that the Head considers reasonable, that are commensurate with the post.
Person Specification:
- Demonstrates a solid understanding of the Early Years Framework.
- Holds a Level 2 or 3 qualification in Early Years Education (desirable).
- Shows a passion for early years education, with a strong commitment to maintaining high professional standards.
