Specific Responsibilities

 

Job Summary

ICS Zurich seeks a dedicated and versatile English Language & Literature Teacher with a specialization in EAL to join our Secondary School faculty. This role involves teaching English across IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP) levels, catering to a diverse student body, from English language learners to those exploring advanced literary analysis.

Teaching and Learning

  • Deliver engaging and inclusive instruction in MYP Language & Literature and DP English A (Language & Literature) and English B.
  • Support English language acquisition for EAL students, including those needing academic English preparation.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and collaborative learning environment that meets students’ social, emotional, and academic needs.
  • Develop learning activities that challenge students and address diverse language proficiency levels.
  • Incorporate technology to enhance learning and maintain effective classroom management.


Assessment and Reporting

  • Conduct formative and summative assessments to support student growth, providing timely, relevant feedback.
  • Attend Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences to discuss student progress and learning goals.
  • Maintain open communication with parents to keep them informed of their child’s academic journey.


Curriculum development

  • Collaborate within the EAL Team to support programme goals and alignment with IB standards.
  • Contribute to curriculum planning for MYP and DP units, keeping all curriculum plans updated.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary curriculum projects, and supervise students on Personal Projects and Extended Essays.


Student Well-Being & Pastoral Support

  • Embrace ICS’s cultural diversity by connecting curriculum with students’ backgrounds.
  • Support student welfare and social development, identifying and addressing any concerns with relevant staff.
  • Contribute to student recognition and school-wide events, such as assemblies and awards ceremonies.


Collaborative Culture at ICS

  • Actively participate in team and Secondary School meetings, contributing to a positive, collaborative culture.
  • Assist with exam administration, class coverage, and school extracurricular activities, including field trips.


The successful candidate will have:

  • Education & Credentials: Bachelor’s degree and current teaching qualification.
  • Experience: Prior experience in international schools and knowledge of IB MYP and DP programs are advantageous.
  • Language: English as a first language (native proficiency).
  • Skills: Strong classroom management, organizational, and technology integration skills.
  • Professional Knowledge: Specialist understanding of language acquisition pedagogy and adolescent development.
  • Soft Skills: Adaptable, imaginative, collaborative, empathetic, resilient, and mission driven.

The ICS Inter-Community School, situated in Zürich, is a mainstream, mixed gender, all-through school located in Zurich. Established in 1960, the ICS now has over 800 students from 55 nationalities.

At the Primary School level The Inter-Community School covers the following subjects; Mathematics, Reading and Writing, The Arts, and Social Studies,

At the Middle and Secondary School levels, students of the Inter-Community School study English, German, Sciences, Mathematics, French, Spanish, Performing Arts, Design, and Physical Education.
