Job Description: As an Exam Scribe at Buckswood, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that students with special educational needs have the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and abilities in a fair and accessible manner during their GCSE examinations. You will work closely with the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) and examination officer to facilitate a conducive testing environment for the student.


Key Responsibilities:

1.   Scribing: Act as a scribe for a student with special educational needs during their examinations, transcribing their answers verbatim as they dictate.

Reading Instructions: Carefully read and present examination instructions to the student, ensuring they understand the format and requirements of each paper.

Maintaining Confidentiality: Adhere to strict confidentiality and data protection guidelines to safeguard the integrity of the examination process.

Time Management: Manage the examination time effectively to ensure the student has adequate opportunity to complete their papers.

Communication: Maintain clear and open communication with the SENCO, examination officers, and teaching staff regarding any issues or concerns that may arise during the examination process.

Adherence to Regulations: Ensure compliance with examination board regulations and guidelines at all times.

Supportive Environment: Create a supportive and reassuring atmosphere for the student to alleviate stress and anxiety.

Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of the examination process, including any adjustments made during the examination.

Requirements:

  •  A strong commitment to inclusive education and supporting students with special educational needs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain focus and attention to detail under pressure.
  • Discretion and the ability to handle confidential information with sensitivity.
  • Reliable and punctual.
  • Previous experience as an exam scribe or similar role is preferred but not essential.
  • Familiarity with examination system and regulations (training will be provided if necessary).


Hours: as per exam timetable

Buckswood School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure & Barring Service. You must have the right to work in the UK with appropriate Visa if necessary. If you have not lived/worked in the UK for the past 5 years you will need to provide a Police check from the country in which you have been living and working.
