Job overview

EK Outreach provides support for children and young people with special educational needs through various packages, during school hours. Support is delivered in diverse venues, including students’ homes. Students are generally supported on a two-to-one basis. Subjects and strategies are negotiated between EK Outreach staff and other parties involved with the student. All staff members are line-managed by the appropriate Curriculum Coordinator.

Please note this position is for one day a week (six hours), term time only.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and manage programmes of work as agreed upon by all parties involved.
  • Ensure the effective management of students.
  • Evaluate and assess students’ progress through assignments, tests, and projects to ensure understanding of agricultural concepts and practical applications.
  • Complete individual risk assessments for each student.
  • Facilitate hands-on learning experiences in settings such as the farm and workshops to provide students with practical skills.
  • Implement and maintain safety protocols for all farm activities, ensuring students understand and adhere to safety guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Ensure the programme of work is relevant to the well-being and progress of the students.
  • Work closely with EK Outreach Coordinators to find appropriate accredited outcomes for students, sharing thematic knowledge and skills.
  • Complete daily planning, weekly records, and 6-weekly plans of work.
  • Complete reports as required.
  • Keep the register up to date weekly to ensure students are checked in and out for safeguarding purposes.
  • Attend review meetings for the students.
  • Find appropriate resources to meet the learners' needs.
  • Attend relevant training sessions and network meetings.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience with SEND students in some capacity is essential.
  • Ability to work closely with other staff involved with the student.
  • Flexibility and creativity in approach.
  • Ability to work independently, as EK Outreach operates in a variety of settings.


Support and Training:

  • EK Outreach Services offer ongoing training to all staff.
  • Regular support through visits to the place of work, review meetings, and personal contact over the phone.
  • Access to a growing resource base, including Twinkl, for lesson and activity preparation.
