Job overview
Joining us as a Teacher in Functional Skills, you will provide high quality teaching, learning and pastoral support for students; teaching Functional Skills Maths and English (up to and including Level 2) courses to apprentice learners within the workplace and on college premises.
Here’s the standard bit: Demonstrating a flexible approach to delivery, you will plan and deliver sessions to work based learners both on and off-site and take responsibility for planning and managing learning programmes (which will include curriculum development and regular review meetings).Managing and tracking the student learning programme, you will support exam entries and assessments and carry out the required assessment which will include initial advice and guidance, initial assessment and referral for additional support if necessary.
Ensuring timely and accurate completion of student and course registers and ensure poor student attendance is addressed, you must liaise with parents/guardians, schools and other organisations with regards to attendance and take responsibility for ensuring student progress records are completed in a timely manner.
What you’ll need: Able to inspire students in their learning, you must be capable of devising and delivering learning opportunities to meet group and individual needs to level 2; communicating clearly and engendering enthusiasm for learning. With successful teaching experience / practice in the 14-19 age range, you will have a creative and innovative approach to the development of teaching and learning and a recognised teaching qualification (or commitment to gain one),a degree level qualification in one related discipline or evidence of other suitable qualifications or experience suitable to the role is essential.
