Burton Borough is a vibrant and inclusive mixed school of 1160 students, situated on the Shropshire/ Staffordshire border within the pleasant market town of Newport. We joined the Learning Community Trust on the 1st April 2024 and are proud to be a part of this growing academy. Our location provides easy access to and from Shrewsbury, Stafford, Telford and Wolverhampton.
Burton Borough is in an exciting place in its development, with a new principal appointed from September 2024. The school has a commitment to ensuring that well sequenced and coherent curriculums are in place and drive students’ development of robust schema. We engage with nationally recognised colleagues, such as Adam Boxer, to further refine and hone the quality of our curriculums.
We also place a significant emphasis on high quality, evidence-informed professional development for all teachers that has instructional coaching at its heart. The value we place on investing in our teachers is evident as we ensure all teachers have dedicated coaching sessions allocated in their timetables. We firmly believe that teachers have the right to this supportive investment in their teaching because, as Dylan Wiliam says, “every teacher needs to improve, not because they are not good enough, but because they can be even better”.
The successful candidate would be joining a dedicated team of specialists who are supported by a qualified science technician. Science at Burton Borough is a well-resourced department with a suite of science laboratories. Investment has recently been made into the curriculum offer and the creation of the role of head of chemistry (TLR 2a) is a further step in the school’s commitment to ensuring our young people receive the highest quality learning in science.
The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Successful applicants will need to undertake a DBS enhanced clearance for the school.
