Position Overview:

We are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced, and visionary Head of Creative Arts to lead our whole-school Arts Programme. This is an exciting opportunity as we are introducing this new position of Head of Creative Arts to encompass our Music, Art, Drama and Choreography Departments across the whole School.

The successful candidate must have a passion for the Arts, a track record of excellence in teaching across the age and ability range, and the skills to inspire and engage students of all ages. A Musician, first and foremost, a vision for the development of Music teaching, both in terms of classroom practice and peripatetic instrumental lessons is a must.

Arts subjects are very popular at our School, particularly within the co-curricular programme. The new Head of Creative Arts will have the opportunity to influence the curriculum offered in both Junior and Senior Schools. This is a wonderful opportunity for an ambitious and committed person to further enhance our successful Arts Departments, delivering a stimulating and well balanced academic and co-curricular programme for our students.

We welcome applications from specialists in Music and Creative Arts who will have the ability to lead across multiple subjects. The successful candidate will demonstrate the qualities and expertise essential to lead and motivate our specialist staff; inspire and motivate the students, ensuring opportunities for all to enjoy the Creative Arts. Prior experience of working in a peripatetic style teaching environment would be an advantage.


Key Responsibilities:

• Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Creative Arts Department across the entire School.

• Oversee the development of an instrumental music teaching programme with the longer-term vision of developing Band and Orchestral ensemble playing.

• Prepare students for performances in public events such as assemblies, graduation ceremonies, final assemblies, etc.

• Further develop the Arts as PYP and IB Diploma subjects. Develop and implement a comprehensive Creative Arts curriculum that fosters creativity, skill development, and a love for the Arts.

• Oversee the planning and execution of School-wide performances, productions, and events.

• Mentor and support Creative Arts staff, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.

• Collaborate with other departments to integrate the Creative Arts into the broader School curriculum.

• Manage the Creative Arts budget, resources, and facilities.

• Foster strong relationships with students, parents, staff, and the wider community to promote the Arts.

• Stay current with trends and best practices in Creative Arts education.

• Track and monitor student learning using a variety of techniques, including grade assessments and assignments, and preparing and administering curriculum aligned assessments.


Qualifications and Skills:

• A degree in Music (at least to Undergraduate level) or a Creative Arts related field. A

postgraduate qualification in education or leadership is desirable.

• Excellent practical music skills, preferably with strong keyboard proficiency.

• Proven experience in teaching Creative Arts across different age groups.

• Demonstrated success in leading and managing a Creative Arts Department or programme.

• Strong organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

• A creative and innovative approach to teaching and learning.

• Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the Creative Arts.

• The ability to meet tight deadlines.

• Strong sense of teamwork in leading by example.
