Job overview

The School

The Pilgrims’ School is a leading, selective day and boarding boys’ prep and double choir school in a beautiful and historic ‘city meets country’ setting in Winchester. It is a vibrant, lively school where boys aged 4 to 13 are encouraged to find their passions and nurture them, whether that be in the classroom, science lab, music room, art room, sports fields, at Forest School or beyond.

Nestled between Winchester Cathedral, Winchester College, and Wolvesey Palace, the School occupies a superb site in the historic Cathedral Close. We enjoy the use of the picturesque Wolvesey playing fields and the sporting facilities of Winchester College. With our choral foundations, the School encourages musical achievements in all its pupils but also excels in academic endeavours, sport and the arts. We enjoy an enviable local and national reputation.

The Role

Design and Technology is a highly popular subject at Pilgrims’, integrated throughout the curriculum from Reception to Year 8. From Year 3 onwards, students enjoy timetabled lessons in a fully equipped workshop, blending traditional hand tools with advanced technology like CAD/CAM and 3D printing. The department offers access to a wide range of equipment, including drills, a vacuum former, a strip heater, and a disc sander, which enables students to sharpen their creative, technical, and practical skills using a variety of resistant and, preferably, sustainable materials.

We are seeking a Head of Design & Technology on a part-time (0.5 FTE) basis. This post would suit an experienced teacher looking for a part-time role who is either in a current Head of Department position or is an individual who is aspiring to be one. There is an opportunity to offer more than 0.5 FTE for an applicant wishing to undertake some additional Games coaching duties and/or to teach another subject in addition to D&T. Candidates wishing to offer such additional teaching should make this clear in their application.

How to Apply

To apply, you may visit our school’s vacancies page via the Apply button, where you will find an application form and further information. If you have questions about the post, please email Mrs Abigail Hawkes, HR Manager, on recruit@pilgrims-school.co.uk.

Applications will only be accepted from candidates completing the application form in full, along with a covering letter (no more than one side of A4). We are not able to accept CVs as an alternative to the application form.

Closing date: 9am on Wednesday 9th October 2024

Interview date: w/c 21st October 2024

Early applications are encouraged.

Candidates are encouraged to review the school’s full Recruitment Policy and Safeguarding Policy, both of which are available to download from the school website.
