If you entered teaching to make a difference, you may never have thought about teaching in Kenya. But here’s a chance to make an even bigger difference, in a dynamic country with a buzz about its future and a commitment to great education.

Private schools are widespread within the Kenyan education system and about a dozen UK-style prep schools are at the forefront of primary education. Peponi House is at the forefront of those prep schools.

Located in a leafy suburb of Nairobi, the school has just been almost completely rebuilt with state-of-the-art classrooms and a wealth of other facilities.  We are already using these new resources to go further with everything we do, and a very recent ISI Inspection in March rated us “Excellent” throughout 

From September we are creating a new middle leadership role which will have whole-school responsibility for bringing assessment and inclusion together. This is a key initiative which will help us take things to an even higher level, with more closely integrated systems and practices backed up by better data and better assessment.

You must have a strong background in using assessment data to support teachers in delivering data-driven programmes of inclusion. You must of course have specialist experience in supporting SEND and excellent knowledge of current and emerging areas of particular interest.  And you must be used to advising and guiding colleagues and parents, as well as children.

If all this excites you, you will really enjoy being here. Peponi House is friendly and bubbly, with a palpable sense of family that over-arches everything we do. With some 45 nationalities, we all learn from each other and there are lots of friendships, with lots of laughter and lots of fun. 

You do not need to have had experience in the independent education sector, but you do need to have a real passion for offering an inspirational education, and for encouraging and developing each and every child.

We are planning to start initial screening interviews online during early to mid December, so please apply as soon as you can or at least make contact to express an interest. Depending on your current location, face to face interviews will be held in London on 7th and 9th January, in Nairobi the following week, and online on mutually convenient dates.

This huge investment in premises and resources is just one part of an overall strategy to make the school “the best in sub-Saharan Africa”, an ambitious goal that has also seen much work on re-designing and enhancing the curriculum, teaching and learning, extra-curricular activities, and other aspects of school life.

Peponi House is strongly child-focussed and everything the school does is aimed at caring for the children and giving them the best possible education and care.  Academic teaching, skills development and individual encouragement are taken extremely seriously, but having fun is also critically important and the atmosphere is happy to the point of being visibly bubbly.  As a result, the children have a real love of learning and are excited about exploring new things and new ideas.

It's a great place to work too. Nairobi is a cosmopolitan city with all that entails, and the climate is pleasantly warm but not too hot. The school is within easy reach of countryside, and nature and wildlife are always nearby.  The reward package for staff is excellent and there are many opportunities for personal and professional development.  Add that to the satisfaction people gain from seeing the happy children achieving so much, and it's no surprise that many of the staff are long-serving.
