Role Summary:


King's InterHigh is looking for a dedicated subject leader to lead in our supportive and forward-thinking organisation. The Head of Subject will support the day-to-day operations of the school providing information to teachers, Heads of Key Stage and Head of Faculty regarding the progress towards the relevant sections of the school’s strategic aims and development plan.

  • Contribute to a clear vision to ensure the effective implementation of the school’s identity and values
  • Initiate and manage change and improvement to develop the school, its students, and its staff
  • On a day-to-day basis, manage and lead direct reports and assume additional responsibilities which might, from time to time, be determined as reasonable
  • To raise standards of student attainment and achievement within the whole subject area and to monitor and support student progress
  • To be accountable for student progress and development within the subject area
  • To develop and enhance the teaching practice of others
  • To ensure the provision of an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant, and differentiated curriculum for students studying in the subject, in accordance with the aims of the school and its curricular policies 
  • To promote ongoing growth mindset for the potential achievement of all students.

 

The post holder will work with the Head of Faculty and the Heads of Key Stage, along with other Heads of Subject to develop the vision and strategic direction of the school to maintain and improve upon the school’s academic outcomes, student satisfaction and retention within and between year groups. 

 

Key Responsibilities:


To work in co-operation with, and under the direction of, the Executive Head to provide leadership that further improves the school.

To undertake a sustained responsibility within the school staffing structure that ensures continued delivery of high-quality teaching and learning. 

General:

The ideal candidate will have:


A Head of Subject will:

  • Have experience of teaching law and or Politics at KS5, A Level and/or IB
  • Be an excellent teacher of Law and/or Politics.
  • Monitor and support the wellbeing of the staff and pastoral care of the students in their subject and follow agreed 
  • Have experience of teaching law and or Politics at KS5, A Level and/or IB
  • Be an excellent teacher of Law and/or Politics.
  • Monitor and support the wellbeing of the staff and pastoral care of the students in their subject and follow agreed intervention strategies to support student progress and wellbeing.
  • Support the Head of Key Stage and Head of Faculty as a visible and public member of the team.
  • Work closely with the Head of Faculty to manage student progress and standards across the curriculum; using data and a range of valid evidence to inform development planning; lead interventions and work closely with the Heads of Key Stage to support students.
  • Plan the academic programmes, ensuring adherence to school policies and procedures, and behaviour for learning
  • Assume responsibility for implementing relevant sections of the School Development Plan
  • Act as a role model and offer strong leadership to all teachers working within the Subject group, supporting, and representing the leadership team.
  • Oversee enrichment of the curriculum, including marketing activities to support prospective families to join the school.
  • Actively strengthen the relationship between home and school
  • Act as a first escalation point for student and parent issues and concerns, ensuring clear and responsive communications to resolve matters
  • Report on progress and developments within their subject to the Head of Faculty, Heads of Key Stage and Executive Head as required.

Inspired Online Schools use state-of-the-art digital technology and operates two established divisions – King's InterHigh, a non-selective fee-paying online secondary school, established in 2005 and a B2B division including Academy 21, serving other educational providers, schools, local authorities and other public bodies.

King's InterHigh is the largest online school group in the UK, delivering a fully personalised education online. Our curriculum structure is based on the Key Stages, with IGCSEs offered at KS4 and A Levels at KS5. We teach students online from Key Stage 2 - 5, through a digital platform.

We teach all core subjects at KS3 and KS4 plus various additional subjects including citizenship studies, English literature, history and ICT. The successful candidates will demonstrate expertise and experience of delivering their subject specialism/s and come from either a state school and/or independent school background. Passionate about ensuring the students are at the centre of learning, the successful candidate will be used to deadlines, have experience of creating effective learning resources and having a key focus on the academic monitoring and progress of the students.

About our Roles

Here at InterHigh and Academy21, our Leaders of Learning (Teacher) contracts do differ from mainstream schools due to the nature of our business and ways of operating. As a Leader of Learning (Teacher) you will be contracted to 42 weeks of the year, up to 38 of these weeks are contact weeks with the students, with the remaining weeks being available for additional activity such as course writing.

You will work 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. During the school day there are allocated breaks in the morning, lunch time and in the afternoon, with breaks in between each lesson also.

Our lessons are 40 minutes long which ensures the time spent in the classroom is value added and effective. A full time Leader of Learning could be given a timetable with up to 33 lessons, equating to 22 hours of contact time.

As a business and a school, we do not follow the Teachers Mainstream Payscale, we operate in line with our own salary bandings. Further information specifically for each role will be available via the job adverts.
