We are looking for a dynamic, academically-driven and inspirational teacher to lead our Modern Languages Department. Akademeia High School is an academically-selective school in Warsaw, offering IGCSEs and A Levels alongside Akademeia Assessed Courses. The majority of our students are preparing to study at Oxbridge, Russell group, and Ivy League universities as well as acclaimed architecture, art and music schools. With a rigorous admissions process and A Level classes taught in the form of undergraduate seminars, the school pursues a pre-university university model. The school offers a robust scholarship programme, with 10% of places allocated to merit-based, partial and full scholarships. Together with Akademeia High School Foundation, the school also supports several educational outreach and community engagement initiatives.

About the role:

This role is an excellent opportunity for a teacher looking to take the next step in their career or for an experienced Head of Department capable of leading a team of dedicated teachers. While leadership experience is not essential, applicants must demonstrate the skills and qualities necessary to effectively lead a department.

The role focuses on four main areas of management and leadership.

1.     Quality of teaching

The Head of Department is responsible for the quality of teaching and learning across the subjects they oversee. They lead a team of teachers in their professional growth in line with the broader school ethos of a learning community to ensure the quality of the students learning.

2.     Exam results

In liaison with the School Data Coordinator, the Head of Department is responsible for the department's exam results, including the tracking and analysis of results data to improve student outcomes.

3.     Department development

The Head of Department plays a crucial role in setting the vision and strategic direction for the department’s growth.

4.     School Development

The Head of Department contributes to the overall development and success of the school collaborating with senior leadership and other departments.

As the Head of Modern Languages Department, you will collaborate with experienced professionals who value teamwork. Our commitment to student-cantered approach fosters critical thinking and problem-solving skills, which prepares students for academic success and lifelong learning. The department consistently achieves outstanding results in external exams at both IGCSE and A Level. Many of our students go on to study at prestigious universities, such as University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, London School of Economics, Imperial College London University of St Andrews, Durham University, MIT, Brown University, Yale University. Many receive scholarships to continue their studies at top universities worldwide.

The full-time teaching commitment includes 20 hours of instruction per week, preferably in French or Spanish, with an additional 4 hours allocated for administrative responsibilities. Generous time allowances are built into the timetable to support effective preparation, marking, and report writing. The regular school week is from Monday to Friday, with occasional school events happening on weekends (e.g. open days, school trips) that teachers may be required to attend.

Staff benefits include 12 weeks paid holiday, access to private health insurance and mental health package, subsidised lunches, professional development scheme and further qualification support. Extracurricular activities, such as afternoon clubs, supervision of Personal Development Projects and trips are paid additionally in line with the school’s extracurricular points system.

About you:

Educational Qualifications and experience

·       A Master’s degree or higher

·       Teaching experience specifically in A Levels or International Baccalaureate

·       Thorough knowledge of the subject curricula– iGCSE and A Level

·       Involvement in extra-curricular activities: professional, amateur, or voluntary

·       Experience managing and leading groups of teachers (desirable)

·       High level of IT literacy

About Akademeia High School


Akademeia High School is an international, academically-selective school in Warsaw,  offering A Levels and GCSEs. We are an accredited UCAS centre and Edexcel (Pearson) and AQA examination centre for the English GCE Advanced Levels. We have also prepared a special intensive SAT/ACT exam course for students who are interested in applying to American universities.

We offer IGCSEs and A Levels alongside Akademeia Assessed Courses, which supplement and go beyond the prescribed UK Examination Boards’ curricula. In years 10 and 11 students take interdisciplinary Akademeia Assessed Courses and iGCSEs subjects.

All students at Akademeia High School work towards A Level exams, giving them the opportunity to build their own academic profile from the wide variety of subjects on offer. This unique approach, which is tailored to the students’ greatest strengths, allows them to develop several valuable skills, such as critical thinking, effective communication and problem solving.
