Job overview

Bournemouth School for Girls is an 11-18 selective girls’ Grammar School and Sixth Form in the heart of Bournemouth. BSG currently has 1268 students on roll which includes those in our Sixth Form. It provides students with extensive academic and extra-curricular activities from Year 7 to Year 13 (the majority of students remain in the school for 6th form study). The school is academically successful and is 7th highest in England’s Southwest region according to the Sunday Times Parent Power Survey 2024. The school was inspected by Ofsted in May 2024 and judged to be outstanding in all areas. The inspectors summarised the ethos and atmosphere of the school as follows; “Bournemouth School for Girls is a joyous place. Pupils flourish academically and socially. They are passionate about their learning and embrace the multitude of wider development opportunities that the school provides.”

The school’s vision is: ‘The Best for Our Students, The Best from Our Students’ and the curriculum in place ensures that students are provided with the best opportunities to prepare them for their future.

We are seeking a Head of PE to join our school with effect from January 2025. PE has a high-profile at BSG with excellent levels of participation. We offer a wide range of sports such as netball, cricket, football, gymnastics, dance, outdoor education, volleyball, athletics and health related fitness. Extra-curricular activities are varied and widely accessed. We have an elite gymnastics team, as well as regional finalists in netball, football and cricket. The school participates very successfully in local tournaments, and we have been area champions across numerous sports. We are keen that the new Head of Department continues to provide opportunities for pupils to compete in this way.

GCSE and A Level PE (both Edexcel) are taught at the school and the results are exceptionally high. Experience of teaching both GCSE and A Level would be an advantage. There are very strong numbers at GCSE, and at A Level the smaller cohort achieve excellent results.

We are looking for an inspirational practitioner with excellent curricular and extra-curricular knowledge and skills who can build on past success and who possesses the drive and ambition to ensure that sport and physical education retain their high profile within the school.
