Head of School

Kempenfelt Bay School

Kempenfelt Bay School is seeking a new Head of School to serve as academic leader and chief executive officer, with the appointment to be effective July 2025 or as soon thereafter as possible.

Kempenfelt Bay School (KBS) is a co-educational, independent, non-profit, junior kindergarten through grade 8 elementary school located in beautiful Innisfil, Ontario. Inspiring tomorrow’s leaders, KBS is a school with a focus on academics and the arts. It is the School’s mission to support its students with a learning environment where they can work to their highest potential. With the support of its Board and a very positive parent community, KBS has enjoyed great success in over two decades of operation and is now building on the momentum of past years and looking to the future. As Simcoe County’s only independent school, KBS offers a highly acclaimed approach to education, providing children with outstanding preparation for personal and academic achievement in the 21st century. KBS is a member of both the Canadian Accredited Independent Schools (CAIS) and the Conference of Independent Schools (CIS).

Innisfil, with a growing population of 45,000 set in the Simcoe County region with more than 500,000 residents, borders on the city of Barrie with a population of 150,000. This is a thriving area located 60 minutes north of Toronto, and in close proximity to Muskoka and Georgian Bay. Barrie has over 735 acres of publicly owned parkland located on Kempenfelt Bay on Lake Simcoe and Little Lake with vibrant waterfront trails and a variety of excellent recreation and cultural activities.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Head of School leads and directs the implementation of the School’s mission, guiding principles, and execution of the Strategic Plan. They ensure that the School meets and exceeds its standards of academic excellence through developing and implementing appropriate action plans, building a high performance administrative and faculty team, and establishing positive relationships within the School and the broader community. The new Head of School will serve as the face of Kempenfelt Bay School to the community at large, responsible for overall marketing, recruitment and enrolment, finance, and institutional advancement.

The successful candidate for this position will be an outstanding individual with excellent academic credentials and a proven track record of increasing enrolment and managing organizational growth. The candidate should possess a perspective compatible with the School’s mission and guiding principles, as well as the ability to communicate them effectively and lead the School towards their achievement. Team building and communication abilities, strong public relations, a proven track record of recruitment and fundraising capabilities, creativity in building an exceptional educational program, an understanding of the role of independent schools, and an excellent rapport with young people are all qualities desired in the Head.

This is an outstanding opportunity to build on the past achievements of Kempenfelt Bay School and be an integral part of its future growth. Compensation will be competitive. The consultants will begin the review of candidates immediately, with committee consultation beginning in the new year. The search will continue until the position is successfully filled. Applications, including a resume, a letter of introduction, and the names (not letters) of three references (who will not be contacted without consent of the applicant) should be submitted, in confidence, to the School’s executive search consultants:
