Main purpose of Role

At White Trees we understand and value the potential benefits of vocational learning. The Head of Vocational Studies will ensure the effective learning of the pupils being taught at each school site or within

wider Curriculum venues. The Head of Vocational Studies is responsible for driving the quality of education for all pupils, ensuring the pupils access their bespoke programmes alongside providing effective pastoral

care to support all pupils' social and emotional progress as well as their learning.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure pupils have the opportunity to study and engage in a variety of activities and programmes which are in line with their needs and interests
  • Ensure that parents/carers/professionals are well informed about programmes being studied in the vocational studies team and pupil’s targets
  • Effectively support all staff in achieving the priorities and targets for the school itself
  • Track and manage progress and needs for improvement
  • Support the Executive Headteacher in deployment and development of staff to make effective use of their skills, expertise and experience.
  • To ensure all staff have a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities
  • Manage the various venues and source new venues when necessary
  • Have a highly visible presence across the school sites to support the maintenance of a positive school ethos and positive behaviour
  • Having high expectations of behaviour, using our behaviour wave system accordingly to help support our pupils, embracing the culture of ‘catching our pupils being good’
  • Lead by example – show our pupils and staff what we expect from them – positive behaviour and good manners

Qualifications:

  • A good undergraduate degree
  • QTS
  • Qualifications in area of expertise (forest, outdoor education, behaviour etc)

Experience

  • Previous experience of working with pupils to support their learning and social, emotional development

Skills and Abilities

  • Good communication skills
  • Be a positive role model – leading by example in regards to behaviour expectations
  • Ability to be flexible
  • Solution focussed attitude
  • Be patient
  • Good interpersonal skills
