Job overview
The Governors of Littleover Community School are seeking to appointment a Headteacher for September 2025. The information pack, combined with the content on our website, will allow you to form a clear view of the school and hopefully encourage you to submit an application.
The opportunity arises following the decision of the current Headteacher to leave after many years of dedicated leadership, during which time the school has gone from strength to strength. As you will see from the details from the information pack, we are a high achieving school with exemplary attendance and excellent GCSE and A-Level results.
Our strong academic reputation is evident from the last 2 years of Progress 8 scores of +0.5 and our ‘Outstanding’ sixth form. This was also confirmed in the latest OFSTED inspection in 2022 where the school was rated ‘Good’. We recognise that we need to be fully prepared for any future OFSTED inspection using the new Education Inspection Framework.
We are committed to continuous improvement so that the school evolves to match the ever changing needs of the students, the community, the workplace and of the education sector. The school has continued its path as a community school and we need to maintain our high aspirations and focus on a considered evolution in all areas of school life. We need to utilise the latest thinking and technologies to ensure our school and our students are equipped for the future.
The governors, staff, students and parents/carers are committed to continuing to serve our community by developing the very strong academic performance of the school. If you feel you could contribute to this vision we would be very pleased to receive your application.
Details of the appointment process and timetable, including dates when you would be able to visit the school, are provided in the information pack.

Littleover Community School is an 11-18 comprehensive, community school. We are a Local Authority maintained school and have a positive working relationship with Derby City Council. We are not an Academy and have no current plans to join a new, or existing, Academy chain.
Our school is situated four miles to the south west of the centre of Derby, in pleasant, spacious grounds. We have a proud academic and pastoral record and the school is always popular with parents and carers looking for school places, within our own catchment area and beyond.
We currently welcome 295 students into Year 7 each year, giving us a current roll of approximately 1850, including a Sixth form of over 350 students.
The excellent examination results our students achieve are above local and national averages with a Progress 8 score of +0.46 in the summer of 2024. The attainment of our students is consistently within the top 20% of schools nationally. In October 2022, we received our first full OFSTED Inspection since 2007. We were pleased to be judged as ‘Good’ in every category with ‘Outstanding’ Sixth Form provision. We would urge anyone interested in working at LCS to read our most recent OFSTED Report, to help understand our overall school ethos.
It will always be our aim at Littleover Community School to care for all of our students as individuals. We also wish to provide each of them with an enjoyable and varied learning experience and help them to fulfil their potential. We aim to help students develop the resilience they will need to manage the challenges they may face, not only in school but also in the wider world. Our aim is simple, to assist our students to flourish now and in the future.
We have made a strong commitment to safeguarding children and young people and recognise the importance of providing an environment within school that will help children feel safe and respected, with a clear understanding of their needs and views. We have an excellent safeguarding and wellbeing team with considerable experience and expertise to promote positive mental health and to ensure that every child receives appropriate support.
