We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to provide PPA cover for teachers, working with whole classes, intervention groups and individual pupils.  The successful candidate will have previous experience working across the Primary age range, and will also be able to supervise whole classes unaccompanied.

The HLTA will supervise whole classes in the Junior School, providing PPA cover for teachers. In addition, this role will provide in-class support alongside class teachers when not required to take classes, and work with intervention groups and individual pupils as well as some admin and preparation of materials for teaching staff. More specifically they may be expected to:

·        Work with teaching staff on planning, evaluating and adjusting work programmes and intervention strategies as appropriate

·        Monitor and evaluate students’ responses to planned learning activities, observing and recording achievement against pre-determined learning objectives

·        Provide feedback to teachers and students

·        Keep records and update systems as required

·        Mark students’ work and record achievement/progress

·        Promote positive values, attitudes to learning and good pupil behaviour

·        Liaise with parents/carers where necessary

·        Undertake break duties

This is a description of the main duties and responsibilities of the post at the date of production. The duties may change over time as requirements and circumstances change. The post-holder may reasonably be expected to undertake other duties commensurate with the level of responsibility from time to time.

Our ideal candidate will:

·        Be a skilled practitioner with experience of managing whole classes in the HLTA role

·        Have experience of working effectively with pupils across all three Key Stages of the Primary phase

·        Have a clear understanding of classroom roles and responsibilities

·        Be highly organised, have strong numeracy and literacy skills, excellent communication skills and the ability to adapt quickly to different classroom settings

·        Be skilled at supervising pupils and establishing a constructive, safe and ordered atmosphere in the classroom

·        Be committed to Polam Hall’s ethos and high expectations

Our School:

Polam Hall School is a 4 – 16 all-through academy and is part of Woodard Academies Trust. We have 790 pupils on roll, with one and a half forms of entry in our Primary Phase and four forms in our Secondary Phase. Polam Hall is a school with a unique and long history which today is proud to be a fully comprehensive school serving the young people of Darlington. Our mission is to educate the whole child, developing leadership, compassion, character and academic ambition, through the combination of our Academic and Concordia Crescimus curricula. We have high expectations and aspirations for every member of our school community.

Polam Hall is a community where staff and students work together for common goals. We make every effort to develop our staff team, offering professional development opportunities and the chance to be part of a wider Trust, yet retaining the friendly atmosphere of a small school. We are looking for energetic and enthusiastic people to join our team, who have children at the heart of their practice and who will help us to drive forward our aim: to deliver an outstanding education to every single one of our pupils.

Visits to the school are welcome. Contact reception to arrange.

Please note applicants should use the supporting statement section of the application form to clearly evidence their ability to meet the requirements outlined in the job description and person specification. The information in this section will be used to shortlist applicants for the role and therefore it is important that enough detail is provided to give a full picture of skills and experience and what can be contributed to teaching and learning at Polam Hall.

Polam Hall School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Safer recruitment practice and pre-employment checks will be undertaken before any appointment is confirmed. This post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
