Atelier 21 – The UK’s First Progressive School for 4-16-Year-Olds
About Atelier 21
Atelier 21 is pioneering a new way of learning. As the UK’s first progressive school, we’re revolutionising education with a forward-thinking approach that empowers children to not only excel academically but to grow as confident, capable, and creative individuals. Our approach nurtures the innovators of tomorrow, preparing them for life in the 21st century, not just exams.
We believe in the power of curiosity, creativity, and resilience. Our students engage in project-based learning that fosters independent thinking and emotional well-being, helping them thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
Role Overview
We’re seeking an exceptional Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our passionate team and make a meaningful impact on the academic, social, and emotional growth of our primary-aged students. You will be supporting learners in a progressive, dynamic environment where every child is encouraged to explore, innovate, and take ownership of their learning journey.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Whole-Child Development: Assist students in their academic, social, and emotional growth by providing 1:1 and small group support. Your role will be vital in encouraging students’ creativity, resilience, and independence through project-based tasks and hands-on learning.
- Collaborative Teaching Support: Work alongside teachers to deliver engaging lessons across a variety of subjects. Provide tailored support to students, helping to differentiate instruction and ensuring all children’s needs are met.
- Promote Inclusion and Wellbeing: Advocate for students’ emotional well-being by supporting their social interactions, building self-confidence, and encouraging positive peer relationships.
- Encourage Independent Learning: Foster critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and creativity. Help students take ownership of their learning through project-based activities that build their confidence and ability to solve real-world problems.
- Assessment and Feedback: Monitor student progress, providing constructive feedback. Work with the teaching team to set personalised goals, adapting learning plans to support each student’s needs.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for a passionate, creative, and compassionate individual who thrives in a dynamic, ever-evolving educational environment. The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience in Education: A solid background as a Teaching Assistant, with the ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of primary-aged students.
- Experience with SEND: Proven experience working with students who have Autism, Dyslexia, or other learning challenges, including those with social communication needs.
- Behaviour Management: Skilled in managing challenging behaviours calmly and positively, using effective strategies for emotional regulation and development.
- Emotional Support: Experience with emotional literacy programs such as ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) is highly desirable.
- HLTA Status or Relevant Qualifications: While HLTA or teaching qualifications are preferred, relevant experience in working with primary-aged children is essential.
- SEND Administration Knowledge: Familiarity with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and SEND-related administrative tasks is a plus.
Who You Are
- Passionate and Creative: You believe deeply in the potential of every child and are driven by a desire to help them grow academically, socially, and emotionally. You enjoy thinking outside the box to make learning engaging and accessible.
- Team-Oriented: You thrive in collaborative environments and have excellent communication skills to work with teachers, parents, and professionals to support students.
- Growth-Minded: You’re open to feedback and continuously strive to improve your practice. You’re excited about professional development opportunities.
- Aligned with Our Values: You believe that children are capable, competent learners, and education is about much more than textbooks. You understand the importance of curiosity, resilience, and self-belief.
- Adaptable: You’re comfortable in a fast-paced, innovative environment and excited about shaping the future of education alongside a progressive school.
Why Join Atelier 21?
- Make a Real Impact: Your work will directly contribute to the growth and development of the next generation of creative, confident, and capable individuals.
- Innovative Environment: Be part of a school that is redefining education, blending project-based learning, outdoor education, and a focus on emotional development to prepare children for the challenges of the future.
- Work-Life Balance: Enjoy a school schedule (8am-4:15pm) with generous holidays and professional development days to support your growth.
- Competitive Salary: Up to £28,000 per annum (actual salary), with additional benefits.

About Atelier 21 Future School
Atelier 21 is a pioneering school, designed to offer an education fit for children’s futures. Based in Broadfield Park, Pease Pottage, West Sussex, the school is the UK’s first Reggio Emilia inspired, enquiry-based learning Future School for children aged 4-16 years.
Our school is creating a stir in the educational landscape for its trailblazing approach to education which focusses on teaching children ‘how to think, not what to think.’ Its aim is to make learning more relevant, meaningful, and joyful.
The children at Atelier 21 have a democratic say in the running of the school and this shows in the revolutionary culture which nurtures mutual respect between adults and young people, hence no school uniform and pupils call the teachers by their first names.
Our school is committed to excellence in education and innovation. We are dedicated to shaping the future by empowering our students with the skills, learning powers, and
‘flex-pertise’ they need to thrive in an ever-evolving world.
