About Muntham House School
A caring environment for children
Muntham House School was set up to offer educational support for boys and young men who were unable to learn in mainstream education.
The school works with a maximum of eight to a class group, taught by subject specialists. Through team teaching and the use of assistants, it is usual for the ratio of pupils to adults to be less than four to one.
As the school caters for a wide age range, it is divided into three separate areas to best meet the needs of pupils:
Primary Unit - 5 to 11 years old
At the primary stage, we engage our pupils in learning, supporting their basic skills and giving them the opportunity to enjoy learning in areas they have interests in. Staff help pupils achieve success, and develop self-confidence and a sense of acceptance and self-worth.
Main school - 11 to 16 years old
A structured environment is provided, where rules, procedures and expectations (both academic and behavioural) are clearly defined and modelled. From Year 9 an individual programme is introduced where pupils can focus more on their chosen subject. The curriculum is broad and balanced to interest our pupils and meet their needs. aimed at independence, self-fulfilment and inclusion.
Post 16 - 16-18 years old
After the age of 16, pupils can remain at the school and attend one of several local further education provisions. Residential Students have their own bed-sitting room and are mentored towards independence. Pupils learn to drive and focus on a range of vocational and academic curriculum options. The concentration is on preparation for adulthood and future employment.
Each department has its own distinctive approach within the overall philosophy and values of the school.
Muntham House School complies with the Education Acts 1981 and 1993, The Children’s Act 1989 and Regulations on Non-Maintained Special Schools. It is approved by the Department for Families, Children and Schools and is regularly inspected by Ofsted.
Parents, outside agencies and other interested members of the public are welcome to visit the school by appointment.
Ethos & Values
Muntham House is a safe, caring, happy and positive community dedicated to supporting the individual needs of students. We work for effective change in the learning and social behaviour so that our students can make the right choices in the wider community and move forward with society.
