Job overview

HR Officer

Kew College Prep

£40,000 to £50,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.

Kew College Prep is a thriving stand-alone, non-selective, co-educational school for children from Nursery to Year six. Located in the heart of Kew, Southwest London, we are a small, supportive, and vibrant school with a community feel. The school is also a registered charity operating on a not-for-profit basis.

We are looking for an experienced HR professional to join our small, friendly team. This is a truly generalist stand-alone HR role reporting to the Head of Finance and Operations.

This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week; however, we are open to discussing alternative working patterns including part-time options.

Key accountabilities:

• To act as first point of contact for advice and support for queries relating to routine people policy and procedure and other generalist HR matters.

• To provide advice and hands-on support with employee relations, performance management and attendance management.

• To support senior colleagues with pay policy and pension scheme management, as well as exploring new employee benefits, and wellbeing and engagement initiatives.

• To manage all recruitment end-to-end, including job descriptions and advertising, selection, onboarding, and induction.

• To manage new starter processes and pre-employment checks, prepare employment contracts and manage all employee lifecycle administration, working with our payroll bureau.

• To ensure any changes in employment legislation are reflected in policy, procedure and guidance and appropriately embedded in working practices.

• To maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records and ensure underpinning systems, processes and guidance are in place, maximising the use of digital systems where possible.

• To support the Head of Finance and Operations with compliance management, including mandatory training, policy review, and GDPR.

Kew College Prep provides a small, supportive and vibrant school community for girls and boys from Nursery to Year 6. We are close to Richmond, Twickenham, Chiswick and Acton and Kew itself. The minute you walk through the door, the ethos of the school is apparent; it is a friendly and caring environment which is relaxed but purposeful. The relationship between staff and pupils is warm and open and there is a tangible buzz of creativity in the air. The curriculum is designed to provide pupils with opportunities to create, connect and collaborate both within and beyond the classroom. Children are encouraged to ask questions and think creatively. Technology is used to enhance learning across all subject areas, and sports and arts feature prominently in school life. The school’s Junior House is also the springboard for our unique 11+ programme. The results of entrance exams to secondary schools are excellent with children attaining numerous scholarships.
