Chetham’s School of Music is seeking a IT/AV Technician to join the internationally renowned specialist music school located in city centre Manchester. Chetham’s is a magical place, home to the UK’s largest specialist music school, the oldest library in the English speaking world and a world-class concert venue all in the heart of Manchester.

The job

  • This is a full-time position; 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
  • You will assist with the secure and safe setup of IT and AV equipment and software
  • Check teaching and practice rooms to ensure IT and AV equipment is in good order
  • Provide assistance to staff and students on the basic use of IT equipment and software
  • Maintain user accounts and permissions on IT systems
  • Assist with diagnosis and resolution of basic IT/AV faults and issues
  • Staff the IT helpdesk and process jobs according to agreed standards

In return

  • Salary – £28,166 per annum (Scale Point 18)

Chetham’s School of Music is an independent, mainstream school with a sixth form, for children between the ages of eight and 18. The co-educational establishment, based in Long Millgate, Manchester. There is also boarding provision, with approximately 2/3 students staying at the school at present.

The school is part of the Foundation of Chetham’s Hospital School and Library, founded by Humphrey Chetham in 1653. The first students attended the school in 1956. Chetham’s occupies buildings dating back to 1422, as well as new buildings such as the recital hall, which was constructed in 2012. No academic assessment is required to attend the school – entry is based solely on musical talent.

Values and vision

Chetham’s School of Music aims to deliver stimulating lessons that encourage pupils to develop good learning habits. Students get the chance to showcase their musical talents by performing in lunchtime concerts. Teachers and children value each other and celebrate everyone’s successes. Pupils are urged to attend the performances of their peers, giving feedback and showing their support.

“Levels of supervision at all times are good. Staff have appropriate levels of training to care for the age and needs of the pupils and the nature of the activity. The school has an appropriate and comprehensive written behaviour policy, which covers behaviour both during the school day and at other times. It includes the school rules, disciplinary sanctions, occasions when restraint may be used and also arrangements for searching pupils and their possessions. The policy is effectively implemented throughout the school.”
