We are seeking a passionate and dedicated KS3 Humanities and EAL Teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality lessons, supporting the English language development of EAL students, and contributing to the wider school community.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching Humanities: Deliver engaging and differentiated lessons for KS3 students in subjects such as History, Geography, and Global Perspectives.
EAL Support: Plan and implement targeted support for students requiring English language development across different proficiency levels.
Curriculum Development: Contribute to the planning and development of Humanities and EAL curricula, ensuring alignment with the British National Curriculum.
Assessment and Feedback: Use formative and summative assessments effectively to monitor progress and inform planning. Provide constructive feedback to students and parents.
Inclusion and Differentiation: Ensure all lessons are inclusive, catering to the diverse needs of students, including those with EAL and SEND requirements.
Pastoral Care: Act as a tutor or mentor, providing guidance and support to students in their personal and academic development.
Professional Development: Participate actively in school-wide CPD opportunities and share best practices.
Extracurricular Contribution: Engage in school life by leading or supporting extracurricular activities, clubs, or events.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Experience:
- A recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS, or equivalent).
- A degree in Humanities or a related field.
- Experience teaching KS3 Humanities in an international or British curriculum school.
- Experience supporting EAL students in a school setting is highly desirable.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong subject knowledge in History, Geography, and related Humanities disciplines.
- Ability to support English language development through innovative teaching strategies.
- Excellent classroom management skills with a commitment to maintaining high standards.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Proficiency in integrating ICT into teaching and learning.

The School
Founded in 1993, Kampala International School, Uganda began as a small primary school with a curriculum based on the National Curriculum of England and Wales. KISU has evolved considerably over the years and has undertaken an ambitious programme of expansion and development. It now boasts a purpose built school with excellent sporting facilities. Despite this phenomenal growth, the School has maintained its original aims and teaching philosophy.

The Enriched Curriculum
KISU has a programme of studies based on the National Curriculum of England and Wales. French is taught to all children from Year One upwards. A programme of personal, social and health education(PSHE) is implemented throughout the school. The curriculum has been adapted to reflect the international diversity of our school community and its location in Uganda.
