KS3 Science and Computer Science Teacher

International School Turks and Caicos Islands (ISTCI) is seeking to appoint an enthused Science and Computer Science teacher to teach across Years 7 – 9. Located on the island of Providenciales, the school is situated a short walk away from the idyllic Grace Bay, ideal for those with a passion for the ocean and the outdoors.

The school is in a period of transition having recently implemented the International Curriculum Association from early years (IEYC), through primary (IPC) and onto middle school (IMYC). We are passionate about driving the school forward and seek to appoint a candidate who is able and willing to contribute to the vision of the school, Island pride, global impact.

The school caters for children from prenursery, through to 14 years old (Year 9) and is aiming to expand to Key Stage 4. All year groups consist of one form entry classes and the school has been successful in creating a highly collaborative environment amongst its teaching body.

At ISTCI, our pupil’s study in the British curriculum, supported by the International Curriculum Association, which is renowned globally for its integration of subject, personal and international learning goals. Pupils learn through hands-on practical experiences that aim to embrace the Turks and Caicos Islands and enrich the whole child’s growth.

We're searching for a determined and willing new team member to join us to teach Key Stage 3 students General Science and Computer Science. The role requires working with our 3 Key Stage 3 classes across Science and Computer Science. We offer well behaved and enthusiastic students, well-resourced classrooms, and a highly supportive Senior Leadership Team. The role comes with a very competitive salary, subsidised housing and return airfare upon completion of contract.

The school is open to candidates applying for a fixed term position, covering the final two terms of the 2024 / 25 academic year.

Our Key Stage 3 department is currently an area of huge focus and development of the school. This means the successful candidate will be asked to contribute to the 5-year strategic development plan and play a significant role in the school’s journey towards International Curriculum Association accreditation. It is a truly exciting time to join the team.

Ideally, the candidate will be available to start on January 6th ,2025, although the school is prepared to wait until after the February half term for the right person.

Roles and Responsibilities

· Creating engaging lesson plans that meet the requirements of the National Curriculum, keeping up to date with changes, including delivery of the IMYC curriculum.

· Planning classes to include a variety of demonstrations, instruction, hands-on activities, group work and individual projects, providing pupils with opportunities to learn through different methods.

· Teaching lessons at an appropriate level to include all pupils from years 7-9 (middle school), aiding their understanding of the three major sciences: physics, chemistry, and biology, as well as computer science.

· Adapting teaching approach and materials according to the pupils’ abilities, giving them the opportunity to question and investigate.

· Communicating effectively with the pupils so they are clear about the objectives of each lesson and project.

· Demonstrating experiments and assisting pupils to safely carry out practical experiments themselves, to enhance their comprehension of the topic.

· Encouraging and supporting pupils in their own research for science projects.

· Setting homework and carrying out assessments.

· Taking the register, updating records, marking work, and writing performance reports.

· Establishing good behaviour requirements in the classroom.

· Following safeguarding and health and safety procedures.

· Meeting with senior staff, parents, or external bodies to discuss pupils’ progress or any concerns.

· Attending staff meetings and parents’ evenings.

· Attending on-going training events in or outside of school.

· Preparing the National Science Quiz team (of Grade 4 and Grade 5 students) to attend the quiz in March every year.

· Preparing the National Science Fair team to confidently compete and showcase their project in the National Science Fair

· Arranging and executing the ISTCI Science Fair at the end of the academic school year

· Collaborating with other staff in the preparation of engaging field trips for student
