Exciting opportunity for an inspiring leader to join a dedicated community at Ark Boulton. 

 

About the role:

We are looking for a passionate and knowledgeable leader to join our excellent Science department.

 

As Lead Practitioner, you will develop and manage the effective delivery of our KS3/4 curriculum, overseeing assessment and progress tracking. You will be responsible for leading a dedicated team of Science teachers, providing guidance and support and ensuring that as a team, you are committed to raising achievement. You will also demonstrate high quality teaching that ensures all students achieve results in line with, or better than, key stage and other value-added predictions.

About our school:

Ark Boulton Academy is a seven-form entry secondary school in the heart of Sparkhill. Our approach is summed up in the African proverb - “It takes a whole community to bring up a child”. We offer:

·       Staff wellbeing is one of our main priorities. We provide breakfast for staff each morning, soup for lunch and lunch for those on duty. We have parking available, a gym on site and a well-equipped staff room including a pool table.

·       Our systems and processes for communication, marking and feedback and assessment are streamlined and the approaches we take are research led and based on the needs of our local context. For instance, at present we do not use traditional book marking across the school.

·       On Fridays, children finish at 1.20pm, giving time and space for professional development amongst staff.

·       Staff voice is important to us; we like to listen to our staff. We are always seeking feedback and input from our staff.

We take our students on a learning journey through the scripting of rigorous, objective driven lessons, as a result of a deep understanding of what great looks like. ​As a result, our students are committed, curious learners who make strong progress that is evident within their developed oral and written responses.​

Exemplary Behaviour
We believe that in order to be successful students must develop self-discipline and be given autonomy to make the right choices. Here, students learn about themselves, others and the society in which they live, and about democracy, tolerance, diversity and the rule of law. Our students demonstrate their understanding of these themes through expositions and service to their local and global community.​

In addition, ‘The Boulton Pledge’ underpins the importance of supporting our students to learn about themselves in depth.​ It prompts them to explore themes relating directly to their emotional, mental and physical health and wellbeing, as well as positive relationships and how to keep themselves and others safe.

At Ark Boulton we are teachers of subject, literacy and virtue. Our weekly Subject and Virtue Curriculum Deep Dive supports this valuable work within teacher learning communities. Where possible, our teachers teach within one Key Stage. This enables them to refine their practice and plan in greater depth.​
