Job overview

We are seeking a passionate, dynamic, and innovative Lead Practitioner in Character Development and Technology with expertise in Food & Design Technology (DT). The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of driving student success through exceptional teaching and curriculum development. This role plays a key part in shaping the school's Character Development Curriculum and supporting teaching practices in DT, Food, and other related subjects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Collaboration: Work closely with SLT, faculty leads, and teachers to continuously improve teaching strategies and maximize student outcomes across KS3 and KS4.
  • Curriculum Development: Lead the planning, sequencing, and implementation of a broad, balanced curriculum in Food, DT, and PSHE, ensuring high engagement and success for all students.
  • Teaching & Learning: Support teachers in devising and delivering high-quality, differentiated lessons with clear goals and engaging content, adapting resources as needed to meet diverse student needs.
  • Interventions & Support: Diagnose areas for improvement in teaching practice, lead interventions, and monitor their effectiveness to ensure sustained progress over time.
  • Pastoral Leadership: Contribute to initiatives that promote both academic and personal development, fostering a supportive learning environment for students.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain positive relationships with parents/carers and external agencies, ensuring effective communication and involvement in student development.

Person Specification:

  • Qualifications: Degree in a relevant subject, PGCE with QTS/QTLS or equivalent.
  • Experience: Proven success in teaching Food, DT, or PSHE at KS3/KS4 with a record of improving student outcomes.
  • Skills: Outstanding classroom practitioner with expertise in creating and delivering innovative, engaging lessons. Strong ability to collaborate, lead, and inspire change across departments.
  • Personal Attributes: Passionate about education, adaptable, a team player, and committed to professional growth and high standards.
