The Trust

Barton Court Academy Trust (BCAT) is a multi-academy Trust which was established in 2017.

It currently consists of three secondary schools: Barton Court Grammar School, an 11-18 years, mixed selective school in the heart of Canterbury, rated “Good” with many outstanding features by Ofsted in February 2020; The Charles Dickens School, an 11-16 years mixed non-selective school in Broadstairs, rated “Good” by Ofsted in March 2023 and Barton Manor Free School, an 11–18 years non-selective mixed school in the heart of Canterbury which opened to Year 7 in September 2022 and as the school grows now has Y7, 8 and 9 from September 2024.

Our School

Barton Court Grammar School (BCGS) is a state, selective, co-educational school with a strong reputation for its high academic standards and its caring and supportive ethos. In February 2020 Ofsted judged the school to be ‘good’ and it possessed many ‘outstanding’ features. The School is an accredited ‘Advanced Thinking School’ and is also the lead school of Barton Court Academy Trust (BCAT).  

The School is committed to excellence in professional development and an extensive well-being programme is in place with many benefits including reduced gym membership at CCCU, event afternoons throughout the year and other benefits offered by BCAT and Kent Rewards.

The Post

Required for April 2025, the Trustees are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and qualified teacher of Biology who is able to teach to KS5 and lead their teaching team well.

The successful candidate should be able to deliver excellence in the classroom, providing highly skilled and inspirational teaching and learning. 

This is an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced candidate to work with colleagues to provide a vibrant and outstanding department. This post is suitable for an enthusiastic professional looking to further their career. 

This is a rare opportunity to lead an outstanding department in a high performing grammar school. Biology is regarded as a beacon of best practice within the School with excellent results at GCSE and A Level. Separate Sciences are delivered to all students across KS4 and Biology is a popular option at A Level.

An ability to teach Biology to KS5 is essential. An ability to teach another science is desirable.

Barton Court Grammar School is an 11-18 years, selective, co-educational, Grammar school in Canterbury, Kent. The School is highly popular and is oversubscribed.

In addition colleagues within the school take advantage of planned opportunities to be part of our Staff Drive team, as well as pioneering work in relation to staff workload and well-being.
