Our Lady of Sion School is a small, caring community where students and staff thrive. It is an excellent place to teach and learn. Are you passionate about helping children reach their full potential? Do you believe that every child deserves a chance to succeed in their education? If so, we invite you to be a part of our dedicated team of Learning Support Assistants who are making a lasting impact on the wonderful young people in our care. We are committed to providing a nurturing and inclusive learning environment for our students. We firmly believe that a strong support system is essential for children to thrive academically and socially.
This varied position includes providing 1.1 academic support and encouragement to a young person, currently in Year 9, with complex medical needs. The role requires the ability to communicate with external professionals and the parents, consistently, thereby providing a link between home tutoring, and in school attendance. Our pupil follows a significantly reduced timetable but loves the opportunity to attend school and participate in as many of the aspects of school life as possible. The pupil’s medical needs in school are met by either his parents or external professionals. During the timetabled periods when the pupil attends, the LSA will work solely alongside this individual child, giving undivided 1:1 learning support during classroom lessons and within the Learning Support Room for pull-out sessions. The role is stimulating and multi-faceted and the LSA will attend Educational Review meetings, Annual Reviews as well as APDR meetings.
Additionally, we have specific students in the Junior and Senior School who require one to one support from a Learning Support Assistant. The LSA will be supported to work with children and young people, some with EHCP’s, and may experience working with EAL pupils, with and without identified SEN(D) needs.
Please see the advert and job description for full details.
What we are looking for:
- Teaching Assistant Level 3 qualification or equivalent qualification or experience
- Experience of working with children with additional needs, the ability to supervise and support pupils of all ages with a wide range of physical/learning needs, including but not limited to dyslexia, autism, anxiety
- Numerate and literate in order to carry out the written and numeric aspects of the role, in relation to the curriculum and other tasks as directed by the teacher
- GCSE in English and Maths A*-C or equivalent grade
- The commitment to care for everyone in our school community
- To support the Sion ethos of our school.
- An option is available to work one day per week 8:30am-5:00pm
Closing date: 8am 8th January 2025
If you believe you have what it takes and are genuinely excited about the prospect of taking on this critical role, we look forward to hearing from you. About Our Lady of Sion School
Our Lady of Sion School was founded in Worthing in 1862 by the Congregation of Our Lady of Sion, a Roman Catholic foundation which works to foster mutual understanding between people of different religions and cultural traditions through its communities in 24 countries. The school is now independent of the Order and has since been incorporated as a private limited company, with independent charitable status. Although we strongly respect our heritage, we aim to help young people of all faiths and beliefs and those that do not have a religious belief. Religious affiliation is not a factor in the admission of pupils or the appointment of staff.
