·        Does working term-time only fit your lifestyle and family needs?

The City Academy Hackney is recruiting a part-time Library Assistant to assist in running the Academy's well-used libraries. Working term time, and only in the afternoons, this role would be ideal for anyone wishing to combine part-time work with study or caring responsibilities. It would equally well suit anyone looking to step back into work, or, alternatively, to downscale their career to achieve a better work-life balance.

Reporting to the Learning Resources Manager, the role will involve supervising students in the libraries and supporting their use of library resources and computers, especially during the time after formal lessons have ended. The Library Assistant will promote the library and its range of services to both staff and students and deal with everyday enquiries. Use of the library management system to issue return and catalogue stock is expected.

An additional aspect of the work is providing pastoral support for some students. This could include motivating them to participate in school activities, setting them academic goals, encouraging their confidence and self esteem, and guiding them away from disruptive behaviours.

To apply, you must be reliable, have good organisational skills and be able to prioritise your own workload. Equally important are your communication skills, the ability to develop good working relationships with colleagues, and to interact positively and professionally with students. You will naturally have a keen knowledge of and interest in literature for children and young adults.

As a school, The City Academy Hackney recognises that our staff are our most valuable resource and vital to our success. We put lots of time and energy into developing a positive culture that helps us create exceptional results. You will work alongside many other skilled professionals, and learn both from them and through designated training opportunities.
