Reporting to: Head of Humanities

The Role
To raise standards of teaching and learning throughout Sandford International School
Key responsibilities (in addition to the key responsibilities expected as a classroom teacher)
Leadership and Management
• Provide leadership in curriculum planning.
Ensuring the continuity and progression in all subject areas by supporting colleagues in choosing the appropriate sequence of teaching, interleaving, assessment for learning, evidence-based teaching strategies, and supporting colleagues to identify clear learning objectives throughout the curriculum.
• Lead and inspire others in teaching and learning.
Enable all teachers to achieve proficiency in teaching and learning, through coaching and mentoring, as well as through the provision of CPD and INSET training, to raise attainment across the school.
• Respond to the teaching and learning needs of the school.
Assist SLT and the Head of Humanities in monitoring, evaluating, and continually improving the quality of teaching and learning, and assessment for learning throughout the school. To Lead the development and best practise of the Professional Learning Group
Teaching and learning
• Be an outstanding teacher.
Demonstrate ability to motivate and challenge pupils of all abilities across all Key Stages and have a proven track record of success in raising pupil attainment. Manage behaviour effectively to create a safe, respectful and nurturing environment so that students can focus on learning.
• Model outstanding teaching.
Provide open door provision for staff to observe and discuss teaching and learning strategies, and lead collaborative planning and development, including the sharing of resources and best practice.
• To be an effective teaching and learning communicator, coach and/or mentor.
Provide training sessions, use coaching, and mentoring to enable teaching staff to achieve their full potential, and to create bespoke programmes for targeted teachers across the school.
Personal specification
• Exude a passion for teaching and learning.
Communicate commitment to improve and develop teaching and learning in your own practice and the practice of others which is evident in day to day classroom practice and conversations with colleagues, students, and parents.
• Proactive and confident expression of skills.
To demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills to find new and progressive solutions to existing challenges. To engage in active research to identify best practice within the context of Sandford International School, and collaboratively work with colleagues to bring about desired change.
Qualification Criteria
• Provide evidence of suitable qualifications and experience.
Must have a bachelor’s degree and be qualified to teach in your country of origin. Should have a passion for teaching and it is desirable to have further postgraduate qualifications related to this role e.g a Master’s degree or higher in Education or other relevant subject.
• Provide evidence of recent CPD.
Participation in online courses, self-led reading and/or research, school INSET and CPD sessions, peer support and training to establish outstanding classroom practice.
Successful applicants need to:
a) an excellent teacher of history.
b) demonstrate an excellent leadership record and provide evidence of impact.
c) be a highly motivated with a successful track record of working with a wide range of staff, students and families.
d) show a commitment to and an enjoyment of history within and beyond the curriculum
e) have vision, creativity, drive and enthusiasm to develop teachers in the department
f) be able to communicate effectively and have a repertoire of inter-personal skills which motivate, lead, support and challenge other colleagues; and
g) be committed to the safeguarding of students.
