Welcome to Clarence House Preparatory School (CHPS).

CHPS is a high achieving, knowledge-led preparatory school for girls aged 7-11, based in Hampton Hill, Middlesex, specialising in S.T.E.M subjects, with a science laboratory and makerspace.

CHPS is part of the Jack & Jill Family of Schools, a group of schools that has been providing education for children since 1951 and is now one of the few remaining family-run educational establishments in the UK:

  • Jack & Jill Nursery (Twickenham)
  • Nightingale House Pre-Preparatory School (Hampton)
  • Clarence House Preparatory School (Hampton Hill)

All Jack and Jill schools focus on achieving high standards in both behaviour and academic performance within the close supportive ‘family’ environment and through a broad and balanced academic curriculum.

Emphasis is placed upon acceleration in English and Maths, as well as development of effective working practices, diligence and the sheer joy of learning.

The Jack & Jill Family of Schools achieved Ofsted ‘outstanding’ in all areas’ in its latest inspection in January 2020.

Our Ethos

You should also support the following key ideas:

Knowledge-Led Curriculum

At CHPS every teacher makes factual knowledge a priority. CHPS teachers understand that thinking well requires knowing facts, and that critical thinking processes such as reasoning and problem solving are intimately intertwined with factual knowledge that is stored in long-term memory. Pupils are quizzed about these facts at the beginning of every lesson. Pupils are tested on these facts at the end of each topic. Pupils are examined on these facts at the end of the year and · our exams are cumulative: we expect Year Six pupils to retain the facts they learnt in Year Three.

Grit

“Grit is perseverance and passion for long-term goals.” Angela Duckworth

At CHPS every teacher promotes the concept that developing passion and perseverance for learning – grit - is the essence of success; this insight influences how we teach, mark, display and assess.

What we can offer:

  • The opportunity to teach bright, hardworking and well-behaved pupils in an “outstanding in all areas” independent girls’ school;
  • The opportunity to work with a dynamic and committed team;
  • The opportunity to develop and learn from some outstanding teachers across the Family of Schools.
  • The opportunity to work in beautiful Hampton Hill, on the edge of Bushy Park;
