Job overview
Post title: School office administrator
School: The New School, 149 Central Hill, Norwood, SE19 1RT
Salary: £24,000
Responsible to: Co-Headteachers
Contract type: full time
Working hours: 7.45am – 3.45pm (including 0.5 hour lunch break)
We welcome applications for an Office Administrator, starting in December 2024. The New School was formed in 2020 and our mission is to positively change the way we educate our children in the UK. We are a research school co-creating a new approach to education that puts children at the heart of their learning experience. We prioritise their self-esteem, confidence, knowledge, and skills so they can develop their agency skills, and we use this knowledge to evolve the educational narrative in the UK.
We currently have young people from 4 to 15 years. By 2026, we will have grown into an all-through school accommodating students up to the age of 16 and we are looking for an Office Administrator to lead on school office processes and procedures and be a key member of our staff community.
As an ambassador for The New School and often the first point of contact for those interested in our community, you will have a unique opportunity to shape the first impressions of our school. You’ll take ownership of managing the school office, ensuring it runs smoothly, while building and maintaining strong, positive relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders. We’re looking for someone who is not only proficient in English and Maths but also thrives in both independent work and team collaboration, embracing frequent opportunities to engage with colleagues.
In this role, you’ll have the confidence to connect with young people in a relational, caring way, fostering mutual respect rather than relying on authoritative methods. As a school grounded in social justice principles, we believe in setting respectful boundaries with young people and encourage restorative approaches to behaviour management. You’ll bring a commitment to these values, eager to learn and apply restorative practices with both students and adults.
Our school is innovative and rapidly evolving, and we seek someone who is flexible, adaptable, and comfortable stepping into new tasks as they arise. You’ll embrace a dynamic environment where practices continue to develop, taking initiative and moving with agility to support the needs of our school community.
Our school provides a welcoming and friendly environment. We value our staff and offer support for continuous professional development, together with a flexible approach. We also offer onsite car parking, free lunches, a cycle-to-work scheme and flexibility with five days holiday during term time.
