Job overview

Magdalen Court School provides education for approximately 100 pupils with special educational needs. The focus for the school is to support pupils with high levels of anxiety and specific learning difficulties including autism.

Magdalen Court School strives to create an environment where each pupil’s individual strengths, talents and aptitudes are nurtured and developed. It is an inclusive school which works to provide a first-class education that encourages pupils to think independently and to develop their full intellectual, creative and physical potential. Its success is the result of the recognition of the unique worth and importance of each child.

By knowing every pupil socially, emotionally and academically, Magdalen Court School can be sure that each pupil will flourish and acquire the confidence and self-belief to achieve a fulfilling and successful future and to become confident, accomplished and ambitious young adults.

Due to increase in student numbers, we have vacancies for an Outdoor Education Instructor.

Salary: £19,340 - £30,172 (dependent on skills and experience)

We are seeking to appoint an ambitious, motivated and enthusiastic Instructor of Outdoor Education who has vision, can take initiative and can contribute to the provision of curriculum based and extra-curricular outdoor education through the school’s outdoor education department.

The provision of outdoor education is part of the founding ethos at Magdalen Court School with an aim to allow pupils to develop social and life skills through the medium of outdoor adventure. It provides forward thinking, current and innovative outdoor learning.

We are looking for someone who can operate within the school and outdoor education safety policy, keep up to date with all aspects of activity/qualification development and CPD.

Our Adventure curriculum is child led, aiming to allow children to undertake real challenges and risks, to manage and assess danger, learn to self-regulate, organise, build social and emotional skills and perseverance, improve mental health, immerse themselves in a non-competitive environment, to follow nature's calendar and most of all to have fun.

We aim to engage all the senses. The children will experience a plethora of natural habitats from the wild Atlantic coast to the sheltered beaches on the South Coast, and from the open moorland to broadleaf and coniferous forests. Our programme is full and varied and includes activities from pond-dipping to rock pooling, wild swimming to surfing, sailing, walking and forest school activities.

Closing date: Monday 26th of August 2024

A full induction programme and opportunities for professional development will be provided.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Please ensure you read and understand our Privacy Notice, which is attached with this pack, before applying. We make appointments in accordance with our Recruitment and Selection Policy.

This role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.
